  • Always an Adventure

Went Geocaching awhile ago with my Father in Law.

    We did a Spirit Cache.

It took us to a cemetery to see the grave of Johnny Griffith.

    i forgot 005

Mr Griffith  played with the Funk Brothers, an in house band for MoTown Records, they- “played on more number one hits than the Beatles, Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones and The Beach Boys combined. “

    You can hear them on

My Girl, Papa Was a Rolling Stone, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Baby Love…

The list goes on and on…

    i forgot 020

While walking around the cemetery I found a headstone with what has become my favorite name ever…

    Kizzie Little

Instead of  birth and death on her headstone it read Sunrise and Sunset… it seemed  right out of a Fannie Flagg novel.

    christ statue

I love the things I  see and learn geocaching.

    i forgot 028

Better than the stuff I see, is WHO I see it with…

    I am so blessed.

    Got your Geocache?

  • BEWARE FOODIE POST

I was making beef tenderloin with portabello mushrooms for dinner and I remembered,

I still have a FOODIE post to do!

Before going to see WICKED at The Detroit Opera House, (link)

We had dinner at The Century Grille (link)

    Century theatre entrance anna

Located in the Gem and Century Theatres, a beautiful building.

They brag the Most Theatrical Bathroom in town.

(I didn’t get a picture of the plaque)

    Century theatre fireplace

We started the meal with appetizers. No pictures because I was so hungry I forgot to take them.

I should point out this wasn’t the restaurants fault but my own.

I hadn’t eaten since noon in anticipation of a yummy meal.

We started off the meal with Baked Brie, Three Cheese, Spinach and Artichoke Dip, and The Century Grille Crab Cakes.

HEY! I didn’t get to try that  last one!

    On to the main courses.

    prime rib

Ben’s Prime Rib, He said it was okay. Not the best he’s had, but not the worst either.

    stuffed shells

    Jon’s Stuffed Shells

He didn’t say how it was, but he cleaned his plate, this could be because it was good, but it could also be because he’s seventeen and has a hollow leg.

    fillet

Six of us had the Fillet. It was good.

The first bite was a doosie, I hadn’t read the full description and missed the fact that there was blue cheese on it.

I like blue cheese, but when you aren’t expecting it, it is an odd surprise.

The food was okay and the atmosphere was nice…

Even if the wait staff didn’t understand the word’s “No ice please.”

Even if the waiter stuck his arm in front of my mouth as I was going to take a bite of food, getting artichoke dip all over his tuxedo sleeve.

Even if  when the waiter was informed that the pepper shaker wasn’t working he said he couldn’t do anything about that and his advice was to remove the cap and shake the pepper into your hand and then onto the food.

To be fair the last slight was served up to my MIL and isn’t mine to be upset about, I was just astounded by the stupidity.

It was funny actually because the food was set in front of us and the waiter stood back and said

”Is there anything I can do for you?”

to which my MIL says “This pepper shaker isn’t working.”

Almost instantly the waiter replied “I’m sorry, there isn’t anything I can do about that.”

I started laughing because it is something I would have said to be funny as I handed someone a pepper shaker off of an empty table. When he went on to recommend she remove the cap and then shake it into her hand, I realized he was serious! I started to get up to get a shaker off of the empty table near us, but my sister held me down.

    YES,I HAVE BECOME MY MOTHER.

Anyway, he was forgiven when he brought out the dessert tray,

which he placed between my sister and I onto the table so that we had to turn uncomfortably to get out of the way.

(alright, so maybe I’m still a little bitter.)

There amid the flourless chocolate cake, and the apple dumpling was CHOCOLATE MOUSSE!

    One of my favorites!

    mousse

It was made wonderfully, fluffy melt in your mouth decadence, with raspberry syrup on the bottom.

We left the waiter a full tip.

Then went on to have an incredible evening.

I was with incredible people, that made it easy.

Would I go back? Maybe just for dessert!

What do you think, am I being to hard on the waiter?

Does having poor wait staff color your dining experience?

(I do have a waitress credit on my resume, so I’ve seen both sides of the table, so to speak.)

  • Geocaching and hanging with heros…

This weekend some of us went with Aunt D and Uncle Mat to a Halloween geocaching event.

    geocahing halloween party copy

Sammy and Cooper, super heros, with their side kick, Isabelle super kitty…

A lady looked at Cooper and said “Look it’s Spiderman!”

To which Cooper replied “No it’s not, I’m COOPER! I’m just dressed like Spiderman.”

We were all glad he cleared that up.

    GEOCACHING

    (link here)

    or

Using millions of dollars worth of satellites to find a tupperware container in the woods…

Is great fun, and most of you know I am a tag along.

I have never been caching with so many people before though.

Everyone was looking for the first cache at once.

    artomat 10-06-08 100

There were about twenty people looking up and down…

    artomat 10-06-08 103

    On the fence…

On the trees and IN the trees…

    artomat 10-06-08 109

Of course my sister found it…

It… being a hollow nail with a tiny log roll in a pole, she tried to keep it on the down low, but everyone saw…

    apple dots

    I saw a few fun things…

    So what do you think?

Are you ready to go search for some tupperware in the woods?

  • ART O MAT

Made it back safe and sound.

Had much fun and did a few things…

One of which was go to the ART O MAT!

    going in

We went to the Detroit Comics one again, next time I will look up the traveling machine and go there…

I like it better… it has that nifty bullet hole in it.

OOPS… Some of you sill don’t know what an Artomat is…

They are restored cigarette machines that now dispense ART as penance for their past lives.

    SO… What’d I get? I know you can’t wait to see…

    artomat bearded bunny

I went for this series, it was called Bearded Bunnies… How could I not go for it…

I am disappointed though, it looks much more like a cat then a bunny.

I am not a cat person.

    artomat roller derby girls

This one I am MUCH happier with.

The Detroit Derby Girls all did a few pieces and this is one of their series.

Not only did I get a cool skate art print, my box also had some Derby girl swag in it!

If your new here and would like to check out the rest of my ARTOMAT collection…

    GO HERE!

    Any questions?

  • Guess where I am going this weekend!

    Need a hint?

    I get to go here…

    artomat light.jpg

and I get to see him…

    Detroit artomat 001.jpg

As well as a bunch of other people I LOVE…

We are going to do some geocaching, some movie on the wall watching, some library going for Johnathon Rand seeing, some book shopping, and some who knows what else!

     The world is our oyster.

(Does it sound like I’ve been needing a road trip?)

I know I will get at least three posts out of it… (Yeah, I know your excited.)

    Last hint…

Last time I was there the ArtoMat  was here… I hope it hasn’t moved too far.

    flash mob artomat 5-10-08 104.jpg

Today is really cold here, so on the way I will be sure to wear my…

Rainbow knee socks and brown shag rug

    in the car…

    Can’t have frozen toes…

Look out Detroit! Here we come!

If you could go anywhere this weekend, where would you go?

  • ARTOMAT and DOOR link!

Most of you know we went to Detroit the weekend before last.

And MOST of you know that every time I go to Detroit,

I have to partake in my not so secret addiction…

     ARTOMAT!

    artomat light.jpg

There are now TWO machines in the Detroit area!

This time I went to the new one I had yet to visit.

    flash mob artomat 5-10-08 104.jpg

It’s housed, for the moment, here, at Detroit Comics.

    art o mat machine.jpg

This one is in more of a rustic state then the other machine.

If you want to see the other machine go HERE.

    flash mob artomat 5-10-08 112.jpg
This is my Brother in law with Cooper and Sam man.

He shares my not so secret shame.

    I got two new pieces.

    ARTOMAT 5-20-08 001.jpg

    Him and…

    ARTOMAT 5-20-08 009.jpg

    This tiny brass television.

I was a little disappointed in the choices this time,

but they circulate fast, so I am sure they will be different the next time I make it to Detroit!

If you want to see more of my Art o Mat collection I have an ALBUM.

    It’s a good thing I don’t live in Detroit.

I’d be sneaking off to buy ART all of the time.

BianchiStreet has a whole album of Montreal DOORS up!

Check them out! Don’t forget if you have doors you want linked send me a message!

  • FLASH MOB! FLASH MOB!

We were on our way. We waited patiently until 12:58…

    flash mob artomat 5-10-08 042.jpg

    flash mob artomat 5-10-08 098.jpg

This was the veiw on the way in…

flash mob artomat 5-10-08 041.jpg flash mob artomat 5-10-08 045.jpg

We had our Red Wings, Tigers and Pistons paraphernalia.

    The boys are typical boys.

Soon there were a few here…

flash mob artomat 5-10-08 049.jpg flash mob artomat 5-10-08 050.jpg

    and a few there…

No one talking to each other…

Then at one a girl with a bucket walked to the middle of the square…

flash mob artomat 5-10-08 054.jpg flash mob artomat 5-10-08 053.jpg

She set the bucket down and the cry “CARDS!” went out.

People started pouring out of the buildings and side entrances…

flash mob artomat 5-10-08 055.jpg flash mob artomat 5-10-08 056.jpg flash mob artomat 5-10-08 060.jpg

There was chatter here and chatter there.

Food in the form of Blow Pops was distributed to every individual.

Muggles (non geocachers) stood on the edge of the crowd gawking and craning their necks trying to figure out what was happening.

    flash mob artomat 5-10-08 080

Took the buddy shot while D networked with friends.

    Took a quick group shot.

    flash mob artomat 5-10-08 095.jpg

The time was called as 1:13…

A quick drawing for a flash mob coin was done and then it was 1:15.

A group “BYE” was given and we dispersed.

Not two minutes later the square went back to looking like

    flash mob artomat 5-10-08 098.jpg

    THIS…

It was fun, took almost no time out of our day and we got to confuse people.

    It was a good day.

I actually have a back up posts for a change.

A glass blowing experience, ArtoMat visit and more DOORS.

Hope you guys enjoyed the flash mob!

Next time I’ll meet you there!

  • A Day Out with Thomas and some DOORS!

    There were twelve of us.

    My Inlaws have a membership…

for those of you worried about cost and only Cooper went on the train from my immediate family…

That cut the cost down. Everyone still got to do all of the other fun activities.

Greenfield Village is a wonderful place if you ever have an opportunity to go, do it!

Sam and Cooper hear t coming..jpg

Cooper and Sam ready for the ride.

While they took the train ride I found a few DOORS!

    FINALLY!

What all the fuss was about.

We also went to the crafts section and watched the pottery and glass blowing being done,

that is a whole other blog waiting to be done.

We went to the Firestone farm and we rode the giant carousel.

    scary horse.jpg

Just because… well who would NOT love taking carousel pictures?!

I have so many more pictures to share with you guys, quite a few more DOORS,

but I don’t want to OVERLOAD you.

    If I haven’t already.

My batteries started going dead very early so I had to go sparingly with my camera work.

but I had enough juice for one last picture on the way home…

Thomas Tank and class pics 346.jpg

Everyone was a little tired out, it was worth it!

Hope your day was even half as fun as ours was!

    Still rocking the Motor City!

  • Made it home safely.

Really, really tired now. It has been a very long day.We walked around the Detroit Zoo all day in 97 degree heat.

For those of you who asked… A perogi… is like the Polish equivalent of a chinese dumpling or wonton.

They are dough stuffed with cheese, potato or sauerkraut… and then steamed or pan fried, as they are below. You can  dip them in sour cream and enjoy.

There are  two of each kind below, I had to have help finishing them… You really don’t need more then three maybe four.

I’m off to bed…  But first I’ll show you some of what I saw this weekend.

Now you got to see some of what I saw.

    Be safe.

detroit sam bday 077.jpgToday was my nephews birthday party… Once again the differences between my sister and I are glaringly obvious.

detroit sam bday 075.jpg detroit sam bday 076.jpg

I stuffed the pinata. Complete with rubber chicken.

    D provided that.

detroit sam bday 096.jpgI also set up this… I am so proud of myself… I didn’t need a man to do it… yes, I am that good.  Set up the bouncy thing I mean… there you go again with those gutter thoughts…

I did a good job huh?!

I also set up a tent and a bunch of other stuff… I did one very gross job, that I think I get extra good sister points for… in fact D may have to forgive me for stealing those boots I want. She doesn’t need them… ahem!

detroit sam bday 085.jpgWe also went to pick up the balloons before the guest arrived. My sister probably picked this joint just for the name…  I know I would have.

     Wouldn’t you guys?

detroit sam bday 221.jpg The special guest arrived late, but the kids forgave him.

It was a great day… very hectic and busy. Not only did I manage to put the bouncy thing up alone, I also managed to take it down, but Ben was here to help so I can’t take all of the glory for that.

I’m jealous the kids and Ben went to Greenfield Village while I was helping D set up… ah well another time. It’s off to the zoo tomorrow. Another BIG day.

I have one more picture for you all…

Why Big Bird will never become a burglar… he leaves a trail of these every where he goes…
