Our day isn’t even half over and already we had a full one.
Started by meeting my family for breakfast and saying good bye t my Lil Sis and the Sam man.
They were headed back to Detroit.
Our trip for a boat ride was foiled because something is wrong with Pop’s boat
I’m sure it will be quickly fixed though, It’s that time of year and Pop without a boat is like a fish without water. So we went to the cemeteries to visit.
On the way we made a quick stop in Elk Rapids.
I love that my children humor me.
When we were done with our visits we went to a great junk shop.
Yes it is literally a junk shop. It’s always hit and miss as to when it will be open.
I bought some insulators for a dollar each so that I can put them on copper pipes in the herb garden.
Like he did here with broom sticks.
What do you think?
What kind of funky yard stuff do you have? or like?
On the way home I noticed my Sister’s car on the side of the road.
I knew what she was doing immediately. Yup, she was getting a cache.
How could we not join her?
She found it and then was nice enough to let the kids look, Charlie found it first.
Unfortunately, the cache was in a swamp and I was wearing flip flops
This is yet again an example of how D and I are night and day.
She is ALWAYS prepared…
See prepared and stylish.
She has thee pairs… when I visit next time she may be down to two… hehehe
Since we were in the swamp already Ben and the kids collected some critters for the water garden.
We brought home four but there were tons there, it made me feel good to see all of them.
Our water garden is coming together, now if the lilies will just root.
We once again said goodbye to my Sis.
Then on the way home we passed this. A wonderful and sad reminder of what day it is.
It is a field of flags… put up by The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa Chippewa indians. I think there is one flag for each member of the Tribe who has served and died in service of our country.
There were about three times the amount of flags that I have in the photo above.
There are lights situated around the field and I’m sure that tonight it will be lit up.
I bet that will be beautiful.
Happy Memorial day.THANK YOU to all of the Veterans and their families.

GEOCACHING

The joke is that geocaching is when you use millions of dollars worth of satalites…
to find a piece of tupperware in the woods.

WHAT was your sister collecting?
Love the little frongs..Very cute.
love the pics and love to see sis getting a new cache. happy memorial day !!!!
people always seem to forget there were other people than white men that have fought for freedom…you rock
omg I love those boots she has on!
Glad you managed to get one cache, even an accidental one. RYC, I usually don’t wait to log my caches, but I try not to sit on the computer all the time when my dh is home, it’s the whole “muggle factor” kicking in, I think. He’s a muggle, so I can’t let him see me log my caches. Especially when there are 43 of them.
LOVE the insulators in the garden. I think I’ll do that, as we have a bunch of them and nothing to do with them. I think dh had an idea of selling them so he bought a boxful at some swap meet. And there they sit. So why not make use of them — see how long it takes them to get stolen…
Cache?
Love them boots!
How are you with wildflowers? Looking for a little help here tonight.
Wonderful post as always.
ok….I tried to google it and nothing…what is a cache?
First, I need to point out HOW RANDOM it was that we ran into each other. I was on my way back to Detroit, I take a side road that is off the beaten path, you are NO WHERE NEAR ELK RAPIDS, Not even ALDEN! What the hell is this little place, it is seriously so random ! You had no clue I was stopping there, I thought you were really far out in Kewedin….It was serendipity.
XOXXOXOXOOOXXOOXOXOOX
Hands off my boots!
So, what was the cache??? We’ve been wanting to get into geocaching, but don’t know where to start!
Ur welome dear. actually i was looking for a girl named angela, she was my love one but time went by and we havent talked its been 3 months now. so i was kinda searching sum profiles of her name and nick name, im sorry for bothering u. i just hope i can find her one day.
Well, I did serve in Korea and the North still does pose a threat, so I guess I can say “you’re welcome”.
Anyway, nice photos.
Hey! You geo-cached your sister! Well sort of – it doesn’t sound like you found her with a GPS. I read about the hobby a while back & it sounds like great fun. I like all your pictures! I like turtles & dragonflies in my gardens, alive or otherwise. I also pick up rocks from different places I go & they go in the gardens too. Your Memorial Day flag picture is beautiful & touching. Peace
ooh- what kind of gps system do you have?
and ya- what was in the cache? the only gps we currently have are on our boats- so i dont really get to play- but i think its such a great idea- bringing buried treasure back or something
My ears really perked up when I heard “junk shop”. That is one great looking place! It sounds really neat to put the insulators on copper pipe.. I have a bowling ball with those glass rocks that you put in flower vases glued all over it on a stick in my flower garden. Also have cups/saucers on sticks. I’ll take a picture for you.
Your sis and I would get along really well.
I have a GPS too.
Lady’s slippers
crap I can never get links to work right
looks like you had a great trip…
Oooooh! I’m sooo going to steal your idea about the insulators and copper tubing!!! I love the way that looks!
Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. It’s always like taking a little trip with you!
ANG! What an amazing post – a little everything, and such fun! I have to say, the kids humoring you is delightful – and my hubby and I would have enjoyed that little junk shop – amazing how one persons junk is another persons treasure, huh?
Have an awesome day!
Sounds like you all had a great day. We’ve talked about doing the geo-caching thing (I even have a GPS) but haven’t got out there to do it yet.
Cheers!
I didn’t get tennis elbow… but I did get slightly lighter… Denise has a nasty habbit of hitting the ball anywhere… and usually as far away from me as possible… she is either stuningly brilliant at tennis or horribly innacurate.
Did I use enough big words?
I’m preping myself for the CV
Hope you had a great Memorial Day yesterday, mine turned out pretty decent all things considered. Had some burgers, a hot dog or two, chased the kids around until i was blue in the face, and then nearly dropped from exhaustion. Anywho I just wanted to stop by and say hello! -Bek
