Cooper

  • As I drifted off…

I remember thinking I would do my post in a minute and then that’s all she wrote (or rather didn’t write!)  I was out like a light.

Today is a new day though and I am getting right back on the blogging horse!

I did finally get a YouTube account so that I could share Cooper’s song.

His actual audition was so much better, I think he really liked having the microphone and the crowd to play to.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7UuxYs-ta8&feature=youtu.be

My favorite part is at 4.24…

After struggling with his principles,he has picked his new song,

Downeaster Alexa… also by Billy Joel.

I’ll let you know how the talent show goes!

Do you have a special talent?

  • An excersise in frustration

Cooper auditioned for the school talent show yesterday. I tried taping it, I messed it up and didn’t record… So today I convinced him to sing the song again so that I could post it and now it won’t upload.

    I am frustrated.

I would wait and tape him at the talent show, but he won’t be singing the same song… Which I knew…

The teacher’s gushed about how wonderful he was… and he was really good…

(Especially after seeing some of the other acts…  shhh… )

But they can’t allow him to sing his song of choice…

    Piano Man by Billy Joel.

I don’t know why, but they seem to think that a 7 year old singing a song about playing piano in a bar… where the microphone smells like a beer and the businessmen slowly get stoned…isn’t appropriate…

    :-S

When he sets his mind on something it is hard, really hard to get him to change it!

After much drama and tears… Where he refused to change the words because “it was against his principals” and many “You just don’t understand, Mom!”

Ben has helped him find something different for the actual show.

I have to say that even though  I felt like it was a Little Miss Sunshine moment…

It is so fun watching him sing it and every time he does it still makes me smile.

Ben’s going to see if he can fix the video for me… So maybe I can show you guys and you can chuckle too.

I hope this makes up for my laziness yesterday.

Tomorrow is the first farm market of the year so I should hit the hay.

This was the first time any of my kids have gone out for the talent show and I have never been in one.

     I found it fascinating!

Have you ever been in or been to a talent show?

  • I’ve been doing a bit of hooking…

Not that kind of hooking… I thought you all knew me better then that!

    Crocheting!

I’ve known how to do the basics for a long time and occasionally I would whip out some scarves for Christmas using single crochet stitches… very basic stuff.

But I have been on a bit of a self improvement kick and I thought I should probably learn how to read patterns…

So I did… it’s like knowing a secret language, being able to read crochet patterns… I like it.

     I haven’t taken pictures of anything I’ve done…

*gasp* I know! Me not taking pictures!

For Christmas I made six pairs of the cutest bunny slippers ever, and of course I didn’t take pictures…

I’ve made a few  hats and some bags… no pictures. *sigh*

    I will start taking pictures.

Getting a picture of this one wasn’t easy, getting Cooper to stand still for a picture tonight was painful!

A viking helmet! It’s a little big for him, but he likes it that way.

Isabelle posed for me because Cooper wouldn’t sit still, finally I snatched it off his head and put it on hers…

(This is how she looks often these days… talking to  friends.)

Cooper wanted his hat back so he finally sat still. Gotta do what ya gotta do!

I found this pattern on Etsy from this shop…

    Mamachee

She has some great stuff. I can’t wait to make the other patterns I got from her…

    and I WILL take pictures…

I WON’T however subject you to all of them…

ALthough I have 27 more days to get through!

SO Have you made anything or done anything crafty lately?

  • Hey! Two times in a month, I’m on a roll!

Even though I’m s little late on this one.

My baby turned 7 on 11-11-11.

    Life is good.

  • And so it begins…

I went to visit Cooper  for his Fun and Funky Field day.

After his kindergarten tug of war, standing in line waiting to wash our hands, a little girl approached Cooper.

She leaned in conspiratorially and not so quietly whispered…

“Cooper, Jordan’s in the bathroom crying, don’t tell anyone!”

Then she moved on to the kid standing next to us and said…

“Jordan’s in the bathroom crying. DON’T TELL ANYONE.”

  • What’s in a name…A shark by any other would smell as fishy?

Tonight while I was making dinner Cooper sat down for a conversation.

He was wearing his pirate patch and looked quite solemn.

    Cooper- “Mom, call me Shark.”

Me- “Okay Shark, Why am I calling you Shark? I like Cooper.”

Cooper/ Shark- “Cooper is the name of a car, a little car, Shark is way cooler.”

Me-”Ahhh I see. Well why don’t we call you Drake? That’s your name too, and it’s cool.”

Cooper/Shark- “Drake means dragon, and that’s cool, but I like Shark better..”

Lifting his eye patch he got a look of pure joy on his face…

Cooper/Shark/ Drake- “I KNOW! I can be Shark Drake, a Shark that spits flames is way cooler then a little car.”

Now how does one argue with that?

(I’m so glad Spring is here, I actually think I’m going to want to go take pictures again.)

    (We finally got some snow!)

Cooper and I were walking through the store when we came across Santa Claus waiting for kids to sit on his lap.

Cooper rolled the dice and climbed up to spill his little heart’s desire into the ear of the Big Guy.

When he was done, as we were walking away, the conversation went like this…

Cooper- How did Santa get here Mama?

Me- Well, you know he’s got that magic sleigh.

    Cooper- Yeah, it flies!

Me- It probably gets him anywhere he wants in the blink of an eye.

Cooper- That’s good, cause it would be a really long walk.

    Me- Yes, yes it would.

I thought it was going to be hard to find anything fun to blog about, I don’t know why I was worried… I have kids!

    Speaking of the Bearded Guy…

When I was little I was terrified of Santa.

I never wanted to sit on his lap.

One time we even had a friend come to the house all dressed up to surprise us, I hid in my room.

What is your stance on the Holiday Honcho?

Did anyone else find it odd that our parents encouraged us to talk to, and worse, sit on a complete strangers lap?

  • Day one and the kid’s come through again.

It’s the first of December and all day I’ve been thinking about what I would blog.

On the way home from yet another dentist visit my most stubborn child provided it.

    Cooper, hit his older brother.

It wasn’t hard, and I’m not sure it wasn’t unprovoked.

When I told him that he would have to go to his room for ten minutes when we reached home he replied -

“NO! Mom!  I am only going to do the things I WANT to do and not the things I DON’T.”

To which I replied in my most menacing Mommy voice

“You better think about that one again Mister cause you know what will happen if we get home and you DON’T go to your room?”

I hear a quiet “Spanking time?” from the back seat.

    “Yup.” I said.

More quiet in the back and then Cooper says…

“Okay, I have decided I WANT to go to my room.”

    You just gotta love’em.

  • Cloud Catching

Cooper, Ben and I went on picture quest today.

It was a perfect cloud day!

I found this field and Cooper and I walked on the edge.

“Your going to be my model today.” I told him.

    cooper what do I do

“Well, what should I do?” he said.

“What do you want to do?” I asked

    Cooper I like the clouds

“I like the clouds.” He said looking around. “I think I’ll catch a cloud!”

    Cooper there it is

    “I think I’ll catch… THAT ONE!”

“Jump for it.” I said, so he did.

    Cooper jump for a cloud

    cooper pleased with cloud capture

“I got it.” He said,  proudly staring at his hands imagining he clutched a cloud.

Today was a perfect cloud day.

  • Cherry Festival week is always fun.

(As happy as I am to see it come, I am just as happy to see it go. It’s nice to have the town back.)

My sister comes home for a week and we just GO!

One of the things we did was the Cherry Festival art fair.

    face painted boys

I love this picture because you can see how much they are alike as well as how different they are…

Cooper and Sam,  they are the genetic equivalent of each other…

My sister married my husband’s brother…

I can’t wait to see what they grow into!

    Isabelle face paint

Isn’t she a beauty? I am betting she takes after her Aunt and runs for Cherry Queen some day!

A MUST DO for every Cherry Festival is…

    got Gibby's

a bucket of Gibby’s fries with a generous amount of vinegar!

    What’s your favorite festival food?
