Last night I went to the Dennos Museum (link) for the opening of three of their exhibits.
I was very exited about one in particular…
It is a group of polaroids that were donated to the museum… (link)
Polaroids taken by Andy Warhol.
He took pictures of everything…
As I sat in the gallery looking at the pictures, all elegantly framed, better then any polaroid should be, a woman came up to me and said… “You look like you know something about art. Why are these pictures any different then the pictures that I take? I don’t get it.”
What I was thinking was… Well, you aren’t Warhol… but I didn’t say that.
Instead we had a nice conversation about how he invented himself, why he felt the need to document everything and what he would have done in the digital age
Then it occurred to me that Andy would have been a blogger… he would have been a blogger to beat all bloggers.
In other news… I wore my red patten leather mary janes with the three inch chunky heel to the exhibit… (In honor of Andy.) I had three woman come up to me and tell me they loved my shoes…
I have gone up to people in the past and said… I like this or that… and sometimes I got weird looks… Other times people say “Thank you”… Now I know how nice it feels and I’ll make it a point to keep doing it when I see something cool.
Two food for thought questions from this post…
When you see someone who is wearing something you think is cool, do you tell them?
and
What other famous people in history do you think would be bloggers?

I think honest Abe would of been a blogger too! He would of encouraged us to be good Americans and would of told us of his true love Mary Todd Lincoln!!!
I think its great to offer true compliments to people!!! I would LOVE to see a photo of your red shoes!!!
@firefighterswife - I’ll get one up tomorrow… I was thinking about it and discovered I am too lazy today. lol This was I’ll have something to blog tomorrow too. lol
@angi1972 - I’ll be waiting!!!
I usually tell people I like their hair cuts. It’s usually because I would like to have mine cut like theirs.
I think Anne Frank would have been had there been privacy and secrecy.
There was a great Warhol exhibit in the fall here in Columbus. I missed it and I wish I had gotten a chance to see it.
I tell people if I like what they’re wearing or the color really suits them. I think Leonardo de Vinci would have been a blogger for sure.
The question of that girl is not that stupid… What is it that makes his photos so special? (Or just yours, to stay at a normal level.)
I bet MLK would have been a great blogger–or Lincoln. Both very verbose.
Yes, I always tell people when I like something they have! LOL Embarrasses my kids to death!
I ALWAYS go up to people and tell them I like whatever it is I like. I think Judy Garland would of been a good blogger. I hear she was an excellent story teller.
Of course I tell them!
I wish Donny Osmond was a blogger…
To me, Thomas Paine would have been the ultimate blogger. MLK and Susan B. Anthony would have been good bloggers as well. Most bloggers are people who feel like they have something to say.
that is funny that the lady asked you that. He was funky back 50yrs ago before it was the thing to do.
I always try to tell men and women if I like something they are wearing.
You do some very interesting things. I do tell people when they’re lookin good or sporting something I particularly like. I bet Mark Twain would have blogged some good stuff. Have you picked a photo theme for the year and I missed it? I know you’ve been busy but it’s one of your many trademarks! Peace
Oh yes, I do tell someone when I particularly like something they are wearing.. That sounds like a wonderful exhibit..
I would definately tell them. It makes people feel good. And I am a people person.(most of the time-unless it’s a person that is down right rude to me,although I have won over a few customers who were very nasty in the begining and now are nice to me,the only draw back about that is that they always hunt me down when there’s a problem so I can handle it so they don’t get so upset.) I try to think that most people are good hearted.
Just last week I was moved to mention a coat with BIG buttons – I complimented them on the style and color. But it was really just me breaking the 10th Commandment – coveting those buttons… Ben Franklin would have been a blogger certainly – and probably very funny too.
I went to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh many moons ago. It was quite an experience.
I have no idea what a Mary Jane is (other than a shoe from your “clues”)
I don’t normally compliment total strangers unless there has been some interaction to begin with.
I wonder if Einstein would have kept a blog? And if any of us non-quantum-physic types would understand it?
Yes, I usually tell someone when I like something they’re wearing or maybe something they do with their hair or makeup or something. I think Anne Frank would have been a brilliant blogger. Could you imagine her with a digital camera? Interesting food for thought…
It look like Andy rolled his own smoke if ya know what I mean! that hairs is rockin.
So I know Teddy Roosevelt would have been a nature blogger. He was a huge in bird ID. He would shoot unknown birds down with the shotgun and draw them and name them. He was the man!
Mornin Glorie….My girls love polaroids…did you know they stopped making the film for the cameras recently
. And they had made such advances – you didn’t have to coat the pictures with that nasty smellin gooy stuff anymore…Oh Well..I’m more likely to compliment someone on something they’ve done….”nice lookin yard ya got there mister” you get the drift….but….if I’d seen you wearing 3″ red maryjanes I would have probably tackled you to the ground and snatched em right off your feet…I love Ho shoes…
ilym
This is really random but I think Red Skelton would have been a great blogger too…
@the_best_stuff - you crack me up!!!
I totally tell them…
And, I think that Johann Gutenburg would have blogged.
I compliment everyone! Did you see Factory Girl? It was a good movie about Andrew Warhola.
He really was amazing once you get past his personality.
before i read any of the comments the first person that came to mind was Lincoln. Also Harriet Tubman. Also Hitler (or he would command people to do it for him). Also Jesus (if in fact he actually ever existed) . . . . oh man, Plato – definitely a blogger.
i tell people sometimes, depends on the situation and my mood.
If I see someone wearing something out of the ordinary then yes I always tell them if I like it … like your shoes, they’re different. If they were new Nikes then no because anyone and everyone has them or had them..
Bloggers, hmm? I think Marilyn Monroe might have a blog, whether she, or a ghost writer wrote it would be debated. I figure if it was really good people would say her publicist wrote it, even though she was intelligent. I also think DaVini would have blogged, I’ve read he was a shameless self-promoter. Can you imagine Leonardo the comment whore?
I said the same thing about A.W back in 1979 – What’s he got that I ain’t got?… He was a brilliant self marketeer. That, I am not.
I madly love Andy. So much so that I throw a screen printing party at my house every year to commemorate his death & I named my lovely little white, wiry, white haired mutt Warhol.
Love.
If the Internet had come twenty years earlier, the flame wars between Arthur Clarke and Ray Bradbury would have been testiments to the concept of /WIN/
