  • Finally catching my breath!

This is the second year I’ve worked at the bakery during Christmas.

I worked 47 hours over a four day period and slept for nine hours during that same four day period…

Something doesn’t seem quite right about that, but I suppose it is what it is.

I will be enjoying my paycheck when it comes!

OH! I ROCKED the oven by the way!

I was baking  four sheets deep on two sides of all three oven shelves, so 24 sheet pans at one time.

I was using the big peel to remove them… Yeah, I felt like a rock star.

Only one little burn, and that was on my poking finger that I use to see if things are done, so it doesn’t count.

    christmas tree 09

This is the only picture I took over the whole holiday season!

Just the thought of picking up my camera seemed painful and exhausting.

So this it it… Our sad, little, fake tree.

We usually get a real tree, but I found this one at the after Christmas sale last year for seven dollars.

The thought of paying forty to fifty dollars for a fresh tree this year and then just throwing it in the snow bank after the holidays wasn’t appealing to me, so we stuck with this little one.

I think next year we’ll go back to a real one… We’ll see.

I am enjoying not having to clean up needles, and even though we only got about one tenth of our ornaments on it, I am having to put away less of them now!

I guess there are blessings in everything.

I hope you all had a WONDERFUL HOLIDAY!

I think 2009 has been a VERY good year.

    How was it for you????

  • You should go back and read this post after Thanksgiving when you are debating on putting up the tree…

2009 was better for me than 2008. I am just hoping to survive 2010.

Happy New Year! Get some sleep! :)

  • Your tree is lovely!!! And look at that monster under the tree, very cool!!!

    Happy New Year my friend!!!

  • neat!  i hear you on the no-sleep, lots-of-work holiday, but it sounds like yours was worse!

  • I like your little tree, and love the glasses! I’m hoping 2010 is going to be a lot better year. Happy New Year, Angi!

  • I love your little tree.  Every year I wonder if it is the last year we will put up a real tree and fortunately we still are able to do it but someday I think it would be okay to have a nice little tree like yours.

You sure have put in a lot of hours.  You must be exhausted.  What is the best selling bread at the bakery?

Hope you have a very Happy New Year..

  • @dingdongdingbat - I am going to guess and say our best seller was a toss up between the Stollen, which we only bake at Christmas and the Challah, which is what I was baking… but it really is a lot of everything… People get Rye for Ham sandwich leftovers and we sell all kinds of rolls, although not as many rolls as we do at Thanksgiving… Until I started working at a bakery I never realised how important bread is to some peoples holidays.   I think your tree was beautiful!

  • @Carolina_Is_In_My_Mind - That’s right… remember the perineial resolutions… Don’t set yourself on fire and… I don’t remember the other one! But since you work with young people I kow you have to be far more careful about these then I do! lol

  • if i had to make challah all day i’d keep saying “CHALLAH!!!” as in, “gonna make you holla!”

  • Did you get a dinosaur for Christmas? :D

  • My holiday was excellent.

I remember when I use to work at Mrs. Fields cookies during the holidays, it was a crazy time!

  • Hey!  I love that little tree!  At least you put one up…I wasn’t at home to do that.  I did get to enjoy the one that my daughter and her family shared with us.  Along with my two favorite grandmonsters.  It was great and I love Christmas!  Peace

  • that looks like a lovely tree

  • I like your tree! We have an artificial tree so I don’t spend the holidays sneezing and applying cream to my husband and daughter’s hives.

  • And a gorgeous picture it is!  Simply elegant.  Sorry about all the extra work, but yeah, the check will help.  My 2009 was troublesome, nervewracking, faith-testing, glorious, adventuresome, disappointing, challenging, and filled with the goodness of God.  A typical year.  I usually review my year around this time, but not usually online.  Seems like it’s just interesting to me.  But, 2010 is going to be amazing.  And more faith testing.

  • I was reading your profile and just noticed that you are a glass artist! How cool is that? Just think, all this time I thought you were made out of flesh and bones like the rest of us!

  • It might be the only picture you took but I love the ambient lighting.
Sometimes one good one beats a box of just so so.
I used to only put up real trees. A few years ago I bought a fake one at an after Christmas markdown.
Money was very tight so I knew that was all I could afford. Now I have three fake trees. 1 white, 1 green,
1 pink (We read Eloise at Christmas when I was young). Each has a theme and I have alot of fun with them.
Each is in a different room. I miss fresh trees and the fragrance. I don’t miss the 50 – 60 dollars, the mess, and
the waste of throwing it away. Plus it saves time, no searching for a good live tree. Consider a big fake
one to go with your small one.
I hope things are going better for you and your bakery family.
Best to you in the new year.

  • It’s okay, at least there is a humongous pile of presents underneath the tree and that’s what matters most!

  • At least we put up trees Mornin Glorie…fakes not so bad if you have a christmas tree candle burning under it (or somewhere close – be careful)  You Are A ROCK STAR…ILYM…Happy New Years to You and Yours

  • It is a pretty tree. I have my little aluminum one still. I do miss my real one…sort of. But every year gets easier. People don’t expect hardly as much.

  • not very good , but you have to take the bad with the good !  i’m sure this year will be better.     your tree  looks beautiful !

  • I like the tree in front of the mirror to reflect the lights! It looks like you have twice as many then.  We had a lovely time in N. Ireland, but it sure felt good to get home! I didn’t take any pictures, either. Hubby took a few, and I may steal some to post at some point. Sorry you were so worn out for Christmas, but it must have been a great feeling to manage all those trays in the ovens. WOW!

  • I seem to remember posts from when you started at the bakery when you were worried about ever being able to keep up with those experienced bakers. Clearly, you’ve kept up and this was your year to shine! Sorry you didn’t get too much sleep; but it does sound like you enjoyed it all too. I wish I could check out that bakery sometime!

We have a real tree and have every year we’ve been married; but are thinking of getting a pre-lit fake tree next year. As I’m getting older, the thought of an easy-to-assemble tree is more and more appealing.

  • I had a different year,I hope this one is better in some ways…but in other ways it was the best.
Happy New Year Ang…you make  my life a better place!
