(We finally got some snow!)
Cooper and I were walking through the store when we came across Santa Claus waiting for kids to sit on his lap.
Cooper rolled the dice and climbed up to spill his little heart’s desire into the ear of the Big Guy.
When he was done, as we were walking away, the conversation went like this…
Cooper- How did Santa get here Mama?
Me- Well, you know he’s got that magic sleigh.
Cooper- Yeah, it flies!
Me- It probably gets him anywhere he wants in the blink of an eye.
Cooper- That’s good, cause it would be a really long walk.
Me- Yes, yes it would.
I thought it was going to be hard to find anything fun to blog about, I don’t know why I was worried… I have kids!
Speaking of the Bearded Guy…
When I was little I was terrified of Santa.
I never wanted to sit on his lap.
One time we even had a friend come to the house all dressed up to surprise us, I hid in my room.
What is your stance on the Holiday Honcho?
Did anyone else find it odd that our parents encouraged us to talk to, and worse, sit on a complete strangers lap?

That’s a beautiful photo. We got about 2 and a half inches here in north east Tennessee.
Children always have something we can blog about.
I love your photo as well! We only got enough snow the other night to make it look like our Joseph got dandruff… (our manger scene).
I remember once that the Easter Bunny was in Eastland Mall. I have a happy kid sitting in his lap (Sherri), and a kid that really didn’t want to sit (Ashley), but because her sister did, she did. But you can tell the difference on their faces!
It never really occured to me about going up to a total stranger and sitting on his lap, but then, he was Santa Claus, for gosh sakes… he came and left toys… how could he be a total stranger? LOL It was a more innocent time, I guess.
i certainly hope it was all wonderment and innocence. i am so sickened by all this stupid political correctness in everything we do now-a-days.
Santa Claus? A complete stranger? I think when I was of an age to sit on his lap the world was a little kinder, and nobody thought twice about their kids enjoying Santa Claus. And Mom was always nearby to reassure that it was ok!
Santa terrified me too! Everything looks clean and fresh when it snows…ahh…
As far as I’m concerned, you can have all our snow this winter.
I don’t ever remember sitting on Santa’s lap, although my dad loved playing up all of that stuff. We left cookies and milk out for him, and we wrote the obligatory begging letters! LOL!
Cute story. (BTW, we didn’t do Santa. Just about gave my mother-in-law fits.)
I wasn’t scared as a kid, but it breaks my heart to see parents forcing their kids to sit on Santa’s lap, and they are BAWLING!
I thought about that until after I had kids. I don’t remember ever being scared of him. I always knew it was my dad’s friend dressed up. My daughter was scared of Santa, so I never made her sit on his lap. Those photos of kids crying and trying to get away upset me…don’t make the poor kid sit on some stranger’s lap if they don’t want to!
It does seem like a different time to think of parents pushing their children to sit in the lap of a strange man with a lot of facial hair and tell him your heart’s desires. I never was one to make an annual trek to get a pic with the kids and Santa; but we’ve done it coincidentally a few years at Christmas parties and other gatherings where the big guy made an appearance. Spying_Mom, for the record, gets a Santa picture with ALL her kids every single year. Never mind that Big T is going to be 20 in a couple of weeks; he knows that he will be standing smiling next to Santa with his three brothers for the sake of keeping Mama happy.
LOVE the snowy tree picture, honey! I miss that about living in Michigan. But, I’ve gotten so accustomed to the South’s heat and humidity now, I’m not sure I could take it any more.
everyone knows santa clause
so you were just like my daughter when you were little. she likes santa but when she sees him she freaks out!!!
so we were at a parade over the weekend. there was a santa riding on a firetruck. he had the real beard and real long hair. i looked at liz and said “thats the real santa”!!!! you should of seen my 9 year olds face! he had this look like holy crap thats really him…no fake beard. it was awesome
i still beleive in santa!
I like the genuine dialogue with Cooper .
About your question , I can only say there was not any Santa Claus when I was young . It was only St Nicholas on December 6 . At Christmas neither toy nor gifts:only some oranges !!!
Santa claus has been imported after the war II!!
Love
Michel
chinese people don’t do that kinda stuff. “it’s a waste of money” my folks would say. i never complained. they probably had me do it once, but i don’t recall. i wasn’t very good at being a kid. i wasn’t interested in that kids stuff. while my friends were still watching cartoons, i was watching Magnum PI, lol. i didn’t eat very much candy either. not that i didn’t like to play, i just didn’t like a lot of the kiddie stuff
Mornin Glorie…. I always liked Santa (still do) but my little brother and sister always screamed like banshees…Mary Sue and I were like “stop!!!! you brats are ruining everything”!!!! all four of us had to sit on his lap at the same time – not much time for tellin lists while two brats were screaming at the top of their lungs….
when the twins were 2 we went to a mall and they had Eddie Haskell portraying Santa
- and he looked just like he did when he did Leave it to Beaver – that was the worst of our experiences…
I Believe – ILYM
I remember my parents when we were about three to seven taking us to meet Santa in the store, I cannot remember the gift we got from the store Santa.
Also the Christmas parties meeting Santa.
When I grow up I want to be Santa., but I am only going to let grown up ladies sit on my lap… *wink-wink nudge-nudge*
@mercyless1 - I was going to say… YOU do to like TOYS! lol Oh and Santa was free otherwise we wouldn’t have been doing it… yup, I’m a cheapo! lol
@mlbncsga - I hope you hold that over their heads forever! lol Oh… I believe ILYM! ;-b
@my_final_username - Here it is usually a candy cane… the Big Man never seems to be without them.
@Aloysius_son - Know what I mean, know what I mean. ;-b
