Week 1
I just got my new camera… Delia the D80… Beth’s camera Lucy, a D90 is fairly new, so as a learning project just between ourselves, Beth and I decieded to do a self portrait challenge.
Each week we will take turns picking a subject. Beth chose this weeks subject
“First thing in the morning.”
I know it’s awful… but it was FIRST THING IN THE MORNING!
That’s one excuse… I have several others.

Like- It was the first time I used the timer…
Like- I only took four shots before I decieded to go back to sleep…
Unfortunatly this was the best of them.
Like- I said it’s going to be a learning experience…
And truthfully, the whole thing scares me more then a little.
I HATE having my picture taken, I HATE looking at myself…
But the idea is … to get over it!
I want my kids to have goofy pictures of me when I’m gone.
What’s your phobia? and do you want to overcome it?
While I am overcoming it I’m going to subject you all to one picture of my ugly mug a week… You don’t have to look if you don’t want to.
Oh… go see
Seedsowers… she is WAY cuter then I am in the morning.

you and Beth are brave.
woot, welcome to the nikon camp!
@jillcarmel - I don’t feel brave.. I feel stupid. lol
@angi1972 - no brave is definitely the word!
This is a really fun idea you ladies had! I recently joined Facebook (insert eye roll) and could NOT find a picture of myself, with or without the kids, from the past 6 months!!! I am ALWAYS behind the camera, not just for my immediate family but the extended family on both sides. It was depressing to see how few pictures of me there are for my kids, so now I am making a conscious effort to hand over the camera to the Mr. more often and be part of the pictures. Of course, no one else takes them the way I want them to, but….eh….we can’t have everything!!!
Congrats on the new camera!!! You and I have been on the same page as far as not being in pictures goes for a long time. I’m gonna miss ya! No, really, I think it’s a good idea to get over this phobia of not having our pictures made. It certainly is brave of you to do this. I can’t say that I’m ready yet but YOU GO GIRL!!!! Peace
lol don’t we all
Are you always that blurry in the morning? Come on girl, that’s a Nikon D80, fer gosh sakes!!!LOL
My phobia is dying, I sure hope I overcome it, too!!!
@buddly47 - I know!~ I couldn’t get it to focus on the right spot… and Ben was getting a little grumpy because it was his first thing in the morning too and all he wanted to do was go back to sleep! Next time I’m cheating and taking it in the afternoon… but SHHH don’t tell Beth!
@buddly47 - Oh and dying… for some reason to me dying seems the easy part… it’s the living that gets really hard sometimes.
@angi1972 - You know why I fear death, Angi. There’s no BEER in Heaven.
I don’t think I see the same thing you do when you look in the mirror. I see a beautiful woman. So if you hate looking at yourself because you don’t think your beautiful then your wrong and you do need to “get over it” .
It amy be a blurry picture but for first thing in the morning that’s rather apropos.
Really cute!
I don’t think I would have the presence of mind to snap a pic before getting out of bed.
You are adorable,I love that Ben is in the pic!!!
Nice!
I can’t even imagine trying to take a pic of myself first thing in the morning-sheeeesh. Like I told Beth, there’s no way I’d be as rumpledy cute as you two anyway.
@seedsower - But it’s an awful picture! Ben does look good though… for a man who wanted to go back to sleep he was very patient. lol I learned two things… Take the picture in the evening and pretend that it was morning… and I want a wireless remote! lol Anyway… it shouldn’t be to hard for me to take a better picture for my next one… I have no where to go but up! lol
LOL, you and Beth both look good in the mornings……I look like a punk rocker in the mornings…..my hair does anyway….LOL!!! Well done you!
I love it,your kids will love it in years to come too. The cover is nice and clear!
Aww, I like this picture!
What a great idea!
That’s not awful! It’s sweetly intimate showing you and your husband, I assume? You probably didn’t intend this – but you used a short depth of field – this is why you are slightly out of focus and the blanket in the front is sharper. Did you use auto-focus or manual settings? Don’t get me wrong I like the short depth of field, it may suit yout purpose for this photography assignment (in the morning we don’t want to look sharp and in focus anyway as this is when all our flaws are apparent, and plus it suggests the blurred line of sleepiness/ half awakedness). To correct the low-depth of field open the aperture to a smaller size like f/8, f/11, f/16, f/22 (Bigger numbers are smaller apertures as they are actually fractions 1/22 is smaller than 1/2). Depth of field increases with distance, so the further you had the camera away the sharper the image would be.
I want a cool new camera! And you don’t look horrible. I like this picture!
hmm…i’ve not named my camera. wouldn’t know what to call it anyhow. plus i want to upgrade
@mercyless1 - Your camera would have to have a super hero name…
This is great!
Ok I like the picture. As for any picture of me in the morning I would want it to be blurry! As for Ben he is always a cutie!
I personally think it is a great shot, Ang! Excellent shot!
You both are very beautiful women…have fun with this.
Great picture! I don’t think I could do that! I think you look good. Honest!
You are making me want a new camera….. LOL
that is a good pic! so dont be so hard on yourself. you no reason not to like the way you look!
my phobia is needles. i have not come close to overcoming them. I cant even watch someone get a shot on tv. i have to look away!
Beth may be cute but your photo conveys that sleepy, unfocused feeling. What a great idea for a project; I may have to join in.
My phobia is the same as yours. Just a couple of weeks ago Youngest Daughter took a shot of me that looked straight up my nostrils. One of them wasn’t clean. Do you think she’d delete it? NO! She’ll use it to embarrass me at some fragile moment.
LOL! I don’t have many pics of myself either…I am usually behind the lens for a reason. I hate having my picture taken! So I am right there with ya…
Cute!
I’m learning my Canon 20D as well. It’s not new new, but it’s new to me.
Fun stuff. It is a bit intimidating, but I’m learning slowly. It just takes practice. I applaud you for getting over your fears.
My phobia? Spiders. And I will never, ever, ever get over it.
(And it’s not really a phobia, but I hate seeing myself in pictures, too. Even when I modeled. I always picked everything apart. I do the same thing with my photography. I’ll do 20 edits to a photo and still not be happy with the result. I’m just very hard on myself.)
