Weigh in Wednesday?
Last week I bought a scale. Today I dragged my hubby up in the morning and we weighed ourselves.
I am determined to start being healthier and to lose some weight!
Here’s what I’m going to do to reach that goal.
- I stopped drinking pop a week ago… surprise! Usually I whine to you guys about it, but this time I spared you all of my ‘oh woes me’ posts… I was still adjusting to my new sleep schedule and I barely noticed the headaches this time.
- I am not eating after 7:30 at night… since I go to bed at 8:00 now this one hasn’t been a challenge either.
- I will drink water everyday… and always when I eat a meal. Eventually I’d like to get up to drinking my two liters a day.
- I won’t eat anywhere in the house other then the kitchen table.
- Every Wednesday I will take my weight and check in with myself.
I think those goals are achievable for now… I know some people are thinking, “But Ang! That isn’t enough! Why aren’t you keeping a food journal or exercising? Where’s your gym membership?!!!”
Well, here’s the thing, I can only do what I can do… and right now this is what I can do… next week I will reevaluate and make another list of goals or add to this one.
What do you think? Who wants to do a weigh in Wednesday with me? Well the hubbies doing it with me, but he’s only humoring me. that’s okay, I’ll take it.
If you want to play, on Wednesday’s do an update on things you have done last week or are planning to do for the week ahead to aid yourself in achieving a healthier lifestyle!
Here’s to a healthier life!

I do the water but I will add the rest, they are a good starting point! I need to ,thank you!
@seedsower - YEA! I am so glad! It will be fun to do this with you!
Hope you are able to maintain a healthy weight and be happy too. But be careful the whole weighing and dieting doesn’t become and obsession and then an eating disorder…I only say this as I know full well the dangers of such obsessive food/weight things…
There are also a lot of blogs on xanga where they do ‘weigh in days’ and ‘group diets’…but I think most of these are pro-ana xangas…in short an unhealthy thing.
But I do hope…(because I truly do care)…that you will be sensible about this and also if you are looking to lose weight/change your diet…it’s best to talk to your doctor…just to be on the safe side.
Sorry to put a damper on things.
xx:)
Oooo…I’ll do it with you. My kids even tell me that diet soda is bad for you and still makes you gain weight. So I will even stop drinking diet sodas.
As for exercise, I put one of those pedometers on and couldn’t get over how easily it was to add steps to my daily activity. Just walking thru the halls and going up and down the stairs at school really adding up. They aren’t expensive. And it is really interesting to see how many steps you take by the end of the day.
Cheers to a healthy life. Only Xanga cookies allowed.
Hear! Hear! or is it here here? Anyway, healthy is the key. And you are absolutely right about pacing yourself for what you feel you can achieve. I do belong to a gym and it pisses me off when the fitness trainers ask, if I am happy with my training and I say yes and they continue to tell me I can do so much more. Of course I can, but see here it is, I have a bit a life outside of fitness and if I push myself too hard I feel bad about not being able to do all the things and I stop altogether. It is much better to do what feels comfortable and work up gradually. Drinking lots of water is always good for you. And good luck with the pop. It’s never been my cup of tea but I know so many people who can’t live without it. Sugar free or not it is not very good for you so if nothing else… I hope you achieve success with that. If I can quit smoking after 32 years then you can do it!!!! I know you can. You go girl!
Great goals! You are taking small steps, which are more likely to be successful. I’m not in a mental place to take up your challenge right now.
my bf did that, he stopped drinking juice and pop and started to eat better and lost 30 lbs with out working out. Me on the other hand I am still trying to do it. lol. its hard when you work at a place where there is pop to drink. I try to take water with me to work (since the work water is nasty) Ive done good today with 2 bottles of water and I could got for another one, since one bottle is 2 cups im pretty ok for now. I decided to watch what I eat as in eat more carbs in the morning too and less in the lunch/dinner times. It seems like it should work. and NO MORE POP! If i do drink it, it is sprite and its only one at work. good luck!
I’m in. I do okay with diet and water most days. My plan for the week is to watch when that last sentence isn’t as true as I think, lol… and to do some exercise every day, no matter what pops up. Your goals are good ones. Good luck!
OK so you know I am on a life plan (I don’t use four letter words like diet). I am doing well, and I too believe in achievable goals. You are on the right track. I use a pedometer also, and I love it. I am doing my first 5 K walk this weekend, with your mother we are traveling to Canada to do a breast cancer walk. I will switch my day to Wednesday for weighing in and join your Wednesday celebration days. Keep up the good work with the soda, it is those “hidden” calories that catch up with us. aunt mary
for those who are having trouble with “pop withdrawal” you might try one of those flavored sparking waters (sans artificial sweeteners or just plain w/ a twist of real lemon) or if you must, izze, which has more fruit juice in it, but still better than straight juice or soda with all that phosphoric acid in it…
2 liters of water a day is a pretty good amount for most anyone, but try to drink more between meals or a little after, since drinking a lot of water before eating or with a meal can dilute your digestive acids (the good ones that are supposed to be there) in your stomach, making it more difficult to digest your food…
the next step is eliminating some of those calories that come food that has no food left in it like white sugar, white flour & white rice (aka”white trash”) especially those eaten later in the day! since i am usually up past midnight, this one is often my biggest challenge…
Congratulations on taking the challenge! I started doing basically the same things you are but I started 6 weeks ago. Oh, and I was being pretty strict about my calories. I joined http://www.myfitnesspal.com and used it’s tools to determine how many calories I need to be consuming. I’ve lost 11 lbs (as of my weigh in a week ago). I weigh in again in the morning… we’ll see how that goes. So, in 5 weeks I lost 11lbs. hopefully I didn’t gain any of those back this past week. I’ve cheated a couple of times (oops…).
good luck hun!
You Go Girl! My daughter and son in law started on Weight Watchers 2 months ago. He’s lost 30 lb (he needed to) and she’s lost 15. For years, I was trying to get my wife to lead a more healthy lifestyle, but to no avail
Have your children picked up on your good habits yet? Children often imitate the habits of their parents, good and bad. Good luck on your efforts!
OH. Ouch! Okay. I will try to take up your challenge. It loosly fits in with me only buying USED clothing. (A challenge over at my blog that I am doing for a whole year.) How you might ask? Well, if I don’t find awesome clothes but I lose weight I won’t feel as bad when my wardrob goes down in the dumps. I can blame it on loosing weight instead of flopping on NOT finding great clothes at rock bottom prices. (giggle) - I will start by trying to narrow down the pop as well. I guess taking out 150 cal a day will be a start in the right direction huh?
I remember Oprah used to say that to lose weight, don’t eat dinner three hours before bed time. I think it’s a good rule.
Our scale is broken! That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
Good for you. You’re an inspiration. Go for it!
this sounds like work
congrats and good luck!!!
What a loyal following you have! Sounds like a great motivation for a lot of people, you go girl!
Mornin Glorie….I was going to say “here here”…and then I was going to say my “scale is broken” too…actually it’s not broken right now and that’s why I don’t want to get on it….I go by how my clothes fit…that way I don’t get depressed so bad if I haven’t lost the weight I think I’ve deserved to lose… I gave up pop and beer…the first wasn’t so hard, but man I love a good cold miller highlife…evidently beer has the very worst kind of sugar in it….Good Job Angi….and when I think I’m down to what my drivers license says I am…then I’ll get on the scales every wednesday with you too….I’ve also heard that 3 hour rule….that’s a difficult thing at my house….
Hmm. I will keep up with you here. I don’t know if I can commit to doing too much. I suck at dieting.
Start with what you can do. Make it stick. Have lots of social support (like this blog), and a clear goal. When certain habits have stuck and you begin to notice the weight change, you celebrate with some chocolate cake. Just kidding. You celebrate, make a big deal out of it. I’ll join you in the weigh-in. I haven’t been very good about controlling my eating but have kept up my exercising.
offer of personal trainer… I’m very good… just tell me what you want - how much time you have – what you like to do in terms of sport..?
find me on skype owen.higgins
I’m also a personal trainer with many programs to choose to stay fit and in tip top shape. Some of my programs are:
Trapping 101 (running a 1/2 mile trap line)
Deep woods tree stand placement
Deer dragging (woods, corn, prarie)
Scouting on foot back country
Walking 60 geese decoys in the field because it is to muddy 4 the four wheeler and trailer
and last but not least
Pushing brush and thicket for rabbit/pheasant (this class requires an EXtreme work out)
Please let me know if I can sign you up for any of these.
Personally, I don’t know how any person can go without water every hour; I was the kid who was thirsty .05 seconds after departing in the car. Maybe eating spicyish food every once in a while would help? I drink 2 liters alone in the evening after eating anything with chili pepper.
Thanks for your comments, I’m so pleased to hear a few people appreciating my header.
It is a big hit in the family. Bromley does have a big head on him, but that was simply from natural causes…
Your daughter and her boots…sounds like a little sneak (just as I was)…better watch out.
Good luck!!!
I’ll do weigh in Wednesday with you!! Im not near a scale so I will have to start next week, but I know normally I weigh 136. All of your goals are great goals! And its great your not putting high expectations but sensiable limits. I am learning as well through all this and one thing that helps me is eating small portions every 3 hours or so. I guess it help your metabolism and everyone knows its metabolism that gives you energy, and energy helps you burn fat/cals.
Good luck dear and keep us posted on your success, struggles, and experiences.
First of all, I want to congratulate you on taking that huge step in the right direction towards a healthier life. That’s often the hardest part for most people. It’s also great to see how you’re going about with progressive, manageable changes. That’s awesome! It’s actually very inspiring to me because I’m the person that does everything drastically expecting to lose a pound every day and will then give up when the scale doesn’t budge the next day. I’ve been wanting to track my progress publicly, with numbers and all (ick), for accountability and see how that keeps me on track. So I’ll probably be joining in on your Weigh in Wednesday (catchy, I like it).
Best of luck to you! :]
These are all very sensible things to do, and as any expert would tell you, taking smaller steps is more effective than trying to suddenly become an all-out health nut. Congratulations, and good luck!
LOL! Can’t fault a healthier lifestyle. I’ll weigh in with you….let you know if I actually manage to lose anything. Of course, I need to buy a scale first – LOL!
Have a good weekend Angi! (((HUGS))) Missing you!
I hate the scale right now. The inactivity of my recovery has made it difficult to get some exercise…even walking…but now that I am getting better I have no excuse…it is just the getting started part, getting back into the groove.
Give up my Coke and drink water?? I’d rather be fat…. LOL
lol rmember to eat your greens! haha
Check out http://www.myfitnesspal.com for a food journal. It’s pretty awesome for calorie tracking.
