  • IS IT JUST ME?

Or does the fact that Senator McCain didn’t think that the other 98 senators in Washington could handle a crisis without his direct bodily involvement seem… oh I don’t know… arrogant? Possibly show a lack of ability to delegate in the future?

I don’t know who I’m voting for yet, but I have to say… this doesn’t go in McCain’s positive check column for me….

Without telling me your VOTE… what do you think? Was it a good move or a stupid one?

Also there is that whole multi tasking thing…

  • “a good move of a stupid one”

  • you can always surprize yourself and decide when you’re in the booth but then we don’t have voting booths but just tables.lol

  • i was listening to NPR earlier today and they were talking about this exact thing. they said that his wanting to delay the debate to go to capitol hill for this financial crisis made him seem reckless. even more so now that he changed his mind and is going to the debate after all. ducking out of the debate when Obama was ready to go wouldn’t look so good either. but McCain is the maverick, so who knows what he’s gonna do next

  • I am so not pleased with either candidate or party. UGH!

I love my country, but I am so ticked that the political system has devolved into the mess it is right now. It’s sad and disheartening.

  • Stupid, esp in light of the fact that he didn’t truly “rush back” to Washington. People always keep campaigning through crisis, except something of a magnitude of a 9/11 or something. Which this isn’t. It’s serious, awful shit, but no one is dead from it yet.

  • I think he tried the “I care about the country” piece, except its too bad he didn’t have the expertise.  I’m voting for McObama.

  • Just another political pose.  I’m not sure that any politician places substance over image any more . . .

  • @mercyless1 - I agree.

This was an arrogant, at best, move. I also think it was a ploy, if you will, to rush a solution that might not be the best one to make. (I think he has become his party’s stooge in many ways just so he can have the position he has coveted for a good many years.) My disappointment in him continues to grow. As I told someone else, I am growing to despise him, and I used to respect the man. (I still might not have ever voted for him, but I respected him. Now, he is using the same ploys on Obama in this campaign that Bush used on him in 2000 to gain the nomination. He would do well to remember his anger at those ploys. But, I am just a lowly voter…)

  • As Paul Simon sang….

    Fat Charlie the Archangel

    Sliped into the room

He said I have no opinion about this

And I have no opinion about that.

  • Have you seen him in debates? Every time he debates (or talks, for that matter), he sticks his foot a little further in his mouth. I totally think that was just his lame-o way of trying to get out of tonight (and maaaybe try to look like he knows something about the economy). He doesn’t multitask, work on weekends or holidays or know how to use the internet. I will completely admit that I’m not 100% with Obama on everything, but at the very least, he’s a hard working, intelligent man who cares about all americans and not just the rich.

  • @Krissy_Cole -  I agree with you.  100%!  There was once upon a time when I might have considered voting for this man…in fact, if the Republican party had opted to choose McCain over Bush in 2000.

I think this was a political move…a ploy…based upon the fact that Obama has gotten a polling bump from the economic crisis.  I also think it had the opposite effect that he was hoping for.

  • I think it shows that he won’t abandon his post in a time of difficulty.  It would have been much easier for him to just keep up his scheduled appearances and ignore the role he was given by the people of Arizona.  Had he been doing this for everyday votes and decisions then I would have a problem with it.

  • If I recall, in the last election, the issue of “flip-flopping” was brought up on every occassion to smear the democratic candidates’ judgement. Not that I want to smear Sen. McCain, but isn’t this a flip-flop? They need me, they need me not, they need me, they need me not….. Is it indecision? Probably not - just a maneuver to see if he could use the banking crisis to make Obama look bad, unconcerned, uninformed, uncaring, dare-I-say-unamerican (pick your adjective). I doubt there will be more than one debate between the candidates given the time until the election. Will Sen. McCain allow Gov. Palin to debate against Sen. Biden? lol. No way. His advisors let her be interviewed by Katie (soft-ball) Couric. It was not a good showing. All the questions were easy. The atmosphere was relaxed. She wasn’t in any way attacked but she couldn’t/didn’t answer the questions and the answers she did give, well, pitiful.

  • @seedsower - Are you ashamed of me for posting politics?! lol I’m a little ashamed of myself!

  • We may never know!  I guess I don’t even really think it is that important an issue.  Quite frankly I’m really getting annoyed at all of the campaign advertising and the media coverage.  I may just watch Andy and Opie tonight.

  • It was a political stunt, pure and simple. It was really telling that all the news reports of the White House meeting that he and Obama attended said that McCain never stated his position–in support or not of the proposed deal or of the Republican alternative being proposed. He didn’t ask questions; multiple reports say he just didn’t say much at all. So, how was this leadership? How was he making a difference??

I also find it rather telling that the Democrats and Republicans announced broad agreement on the principles of a deal; but as soon as McCain came into town & met with his peeps, the deal was off. Perhaps that was his leadership? To scuttle the deal so he could get the delay he wanted for the debate or to show what a “maverick” he is by NOT giving President Bush what he wanted?

  • I think he tried his best to get out of a very prolonged opportunity to be examined by the public in a week highlighted by a tanking economy that has seen the worst on his party’s watch. Seemed like a good idea to conveniently take the bi-partisan high road for the good of the people. Too bad it seemed so disingenuous and pretty much back fired. Oh well.

  • STOO-PID! I think it was a political thing that backfired on him. He was trying to look responsible, but came off looking dumb.

  • I think it was a responsible move. As possible future president he should be involved with the solution to this mess. Can you imagine the economy is falling apart and yet the future president oblivious to the fact, standing on some podium saying: Vote for me, vote for me…

  • oH aNGI, when it comes to American politics I am utterly clueless.  And who knows what is right or wrong, clever or stupid….only time would tell!
    (((HUGS)))  How’s things with you?

  • Sick of the whole thing.
I think that it’s their job to be at senate when there is a crisis, however. That’s one of the reason they are there. I am not sure how much good one guy could do, or if he can vote absentee in this instance.
Do I really have to vote for one of them?!!!

  • Big crisis in the US at this time ans I wonder if a vote will be sufficient to solve it .
This is all the economic system that is shaked .
    Perhaps Roosevelt ?
    Love

    Michel

  • It was a McCain move.

  • I really just don’t know what McCain is aiming for, so I’m pretty sure I’m not looking into voting for him.

  • politics always have arrogant people at the ready

  • I don’t know I feel slightly torn. McCain made a good point because he has experiance and all that jazz, but then Obama made a point when he said Alqata (or however you spell it you know what I’m talking about) is in 60 countries so why are we so focused on one? I thought that was an excellent point.

I feel the Obama is very good at thinking off the top of his head which may be a bit better than experiance. Why are we so hung up on that anyway? I don’t know, I’m still a little pissed a McCain for his VP choice >.>; although I will say that after the debates were over there was a line drawn in my parents bedroom as they disagree 100% on who should win the election.

My yard now has TWO signs in the front yard.

  • I really like when our elected officials do what they are supposed to do (i.e. act in the capacity of an elected official). I think it’s great that McCain came back here to DC but frankly at this point in the campaign, the debates become very important. Either McCain or Obama is going to inherit this mess in about a month and I as a voter want to know what they plan to do. McCain has a plane at his beck and call. The debates lasted 1.5 hours. I figure it takes 2 hours each way from here in DC to Mississippi by plane. In total, he would have been gone 5.5 hours. Congress doesn’t move that fast. It was dumb for McCain to think that Congress would get anything done in that amount of time.

  • I think you should go watch the video on terlyns site,, simply amazing how we got into this mess and just how much Obama is part of the problem.

That being said I think it was a dumb move.

  • opps thats terilyn

and in regards to multi tasking; as Obama has never accomplished anything of note how do we know he can?

  • McCain is a well-known gambler (literally) but he also gambles in politics. Palin was a gamble that paid-off. He gambled that he would do better suspending the debate about the economic crisis( especially since Jim Lehrer made it clear that he was not held to sticking to foreign policy) as his numbers were starting to fall again. But it didn’t pay off. Obama and the committee would not let him off the hook (they were showing up with or without him) so he had to come or look like he was just bailing on the democratic process.

  • Truth is….I just thought he was doing what he thought was responsible, instead of thinking only of his own goals/campaign.

  • @GailThePainterly - Yeah… but isn’t he supposed to be doing his job in addition to campaigning… it almost felt to me like a little he was saying… LOOK at me! I’m doing my job!  Anyway… this has not been a good couple of weeks for him… I almost feel sorry for the man. *sigh*
