Hi ho hi ho
Well I completed my second day of work this morning at nine…
It isn’t what I expected… I am washing A LOT of dishes… I knew I would have to do that, but I was also told I’d get to do a few fun things… I am hoping eventually that happens, because I don’t think I could stand doing dishes for five hours a night, five nights a week…
I’ll just keep telling myself it’s a pay check and the hours are right. Besides, two days really isn’t giving something much of a chance… No, I am by no means ready to “throw in the towel.”
How about you? Do you like your job? I don’t think there isn’t a job I wouldn’t at least TRY… Is there a job you would NEVER do?

I would never be a waitress; I’d end up dumping food in the first lap of some jerk who is rude. I’d never be an erotic dancer, either
I like my job. It’s busy and never-ending (I run a youth-serving non-profit) but it is very satisfying.
Awwww…..hope it does get better and you make lots of nice cakes ‘n things!!! I hated telesales….I only did it for about 6 months!
Building bridges … heights …….eeeeeeee God !
I would not be on of those artic fishermen out on the bering sea. they may make $40,000 and $50,000 grand in three months, but you gotta survive those three months. I wouldn’t.
@cre13 - But, would you be an exotic dancer?
I could not work in a slaughter house. Emotionally or physically I could not do it. I once applied to scoop poop at a vet’s office/ shelter. I heard the conditions were awful and I thought that it would help the animals. They didn’t let me, they were beyond mad that the word had gotten out about it.
I think your fun time will come maybe now they are just trying to get caught up.
I love my job! But a job I couldn’t do? Coal miner in a deep mine! Huhuh,no,no way, thanks but no thanks mister!!!!
I love my job. I get to do so many different things (including cleaning toilets!) and deal with so many people from all over the world.
My family owns and runs a title insurance company. I love my job, not necessarily because I am passionate about title insurance, lol, but because it is part of our family, close to home and enormously flexible. As family friendly as it gets when you have kids. There are probably a lot of jobs I couldn’t hack. I would not, for instance, want to be the guy we hired to walk around in our septic tank and fix the risers.
Have enjoyed aspects of every job I ever had, and hated others. I would have to draw the line at being a lady of the evening however, yes that is putting a polite title to “hooker”!! Hugs
Not currently in employment, all the jobs I have had been pretty good but since there were are through employment agencies I was unsure how long there were last for.
Jobs I would not do.
Bed tester, anything to do seeing blood (first aid okay)
There’s a show on TV (we see it on the National Geographic channel, I think) called Dirty Jobs that is really funny. There are A LOT of them I would not do. A LOT! ACK! I love my job! It doesn’t really seem like work to me at all.
@buddly47 - what’s the difference?!
@cre13 - The X rating. Exotic dance is an art form. As in bellydancing and other ethnic dance styles.
I could never work in a slaughter house….or with anything to do with sewerage either!
WOW – I’m impressed – thats a heck of a lotta dish washing!
((((HUGS))))
i would never be a vet……not cos i don’t like animals….but cos i can’t stand to see a sick one i couldn’t help…it would be too heart breaking…..
i use to wash dishes all the time….sooner or later though they ask you to go to the front to help with this and that…..then they see how handy you are….so they move you up slowly to something else besides washing dishes….. no one can fudge up washing….but you can fudge up orders so maybe they are taking it slow with you to break you in……i take it as a sign they like you when they try to train you the right way rather then throwing you into the shyt right away……
much care and love to you and yours
Washing dishes is not my idea of fun. I did like the jobs I have had (lifeguard, nurse, paramedic, do you get the idea I had to have excitement in my work?) Now being a Mom I have learned its the hardest job one will ever love!!!
Lurve my job. Nothing involving the death penalty.
My job is OK but I need more challenge. I think think of several jobs I wouldn’t want: 1. Collections 2) working for animal control and having to put unclaimed animals to sleep. 3) Being a pediatric oncologist and having a lot of my patients die at a young age in spite of everything i did for them. .
I don’t think I could work in a hospital or nursing aid home. I would feel very sad everyday. And I don’t think I could work in the morgue? I think the best job out there would be to be a travel journalist.
I could never be a surgeon. Wouldn’t want to be. I used to teach and am glad I am no longer teaching. Although I was a salesman and good at it, it was in a retail store. Cold call stuff I would hate.
I enjoy subbing, but I hate the micromanaging rules that the principal comes up with. No one does. I tend to agree with jfwclark in jobs I would not want. I also don’t think I would want to work in corrections either. Slaughter house either!
I love travelling. Maybe something in that?
Hang in there!!! HUGS! Tracy
Hopefully they will let you try new things soon. Maybe you can try suggesting things to them for you to try out.
I have previously worked in a shop stacking shelves, in a restaurant as a waitress/runner, in a charity shop and in analytical laboratories doing analytical chemistry…of all these the worst was the restaurant…long hours and rude cooks yelling all the time.
A job I would never want to do would be anything to do with dead bodies…i.e. working in a mortuary or abattoir…:)
@buddly47 - ahhh… silly me. Well, I wouldn’t be either.
My job mostly involves driving things- semis, payloaders, locomotive. I love doing that. The people stuff, not so much.
I will never work a night job again. Did that for a year and a half, nearly ruined me.
I waitressed when I was young– I don’t have the stamina for that anymore. LOL I’m not working now– cancer is my full time job, and I hate it. LOL
I love my job. I work at an animal shelter, so I love the people and the animals. I have a great time every day that I go in there. Sometimes it can get dirty and yeah, the bird in the lobby tries to eat me two or three times a day. But really, I wouldn’t trade this for any of my past jobs in the last 2 years.
Hey! I haven’t talked to you in a while. It’s good to see you’re hanging in there with the dishdoing. Don’t give up! Vivez la resistance!
I haven’t had an actual job yet. I’ve applied to a vast multitude of places and followed them up with multiple phonecalls, but it’s so hard to land this first job. Blegh.
When I came to your xanga, my eyes were automatically absorbed into the two pictures in your last post. And lawdy, I was about to gnaw my own arm off.
Hang in there. They probably use the dish washing as a weed out tool. I wouldn’t be able to work in a slaughterhouse, or a daycare, which would turn into a slaughterhouse if I were forced to spend much time there. hehe.
I’m about to face my first day back at work today after having a full year off on maternity leave. I’m teary eyed with the thought that I have to soon leave my baby for the day.
Though I’m thankful it is a 9-3pm mon-fri job this time round, couldn’t face full time work of any description right now.
Not sure how much work will get done, possibly a lot of catching up with workmates.
I think I am going to go back on weekends soon for xmas money……..
@mizzshoez - Thats the other thing that is keeping me going… I will be able to get nice presents this year! Hope you enjoy going back and they don’t try to suck you in TOO much.
If it involves dealing with the general public, I don’t want the job. I like factory work, but if I don’t have to work, I’m content to be a stay-at-home mom and housewife. Funny that tea7tree mentioned dead bodies….. I’ve wanted to be a mortician since I was a teenager, and if I DO decide I needed a career, that’s what I’d aim for.
I love my job. I would not want to work construction. I don’t like heights, I want to keep all my fingers, and honestly those nail guns scare me to death. I don’t mind dead things, or blood, or guts. I can even handle excrement (in small quantities).
So, are you still smelling “yummy” after work? Maybe not?
I used to work shift work at the Uni here (washing dishes) and basically cleaning up after students. 24/7. Between the hours of 6am – 1030pm (if their wasn’t a function on) we were all there washing, feeding, cleaning, wiping, placing, packing off… the list sadly goes on. Now I have transfered to another section and I work Monday to Friday 8am – 430pm (little less money) but it allows me to have a social life again and to have to option to go to TAFE. YAY!
Only a little of it involves dishes, mostly making sandwiches or coffee.
As for jobs I would never do…. Well I am not afraid to get dirty. By dirty though I mean dirt. Not blood or guts or poop or rubbish!! Otherwise I would probably give it a go. I know I would LOVE an office job one day but I think I will save that for when I am older….
@WinsomeONE - I don’t! Well today, I smelled like onion because i was slicing onions… I FINALLY got to do something that wasn’t dishes! lol But i had to do some REALLY gross stuff first… I will spare you the details, I’ll just say there is a lot of catching up to do… once it’s done though, it’ll just be a dailywipedown and that will take five minutes…
I like my job, I just wish I was closer
with gas prices the way they are. I actually quit a job because one of the
job descrips was washing dishes. It was a waitress job and I was totally
unaware part of the duty was wash dishes. Yea, see ya.
