When it came to the lottery for parental units, I got incredibly lucky. I wouldn’t trade either of my parents for the world.
On this day, we honor our Father’s and while I was thinking of mine, going over all of the wonderful traits he has and memories he’s given me, one small memory kept coming back to me.
We were at my Grandparents house, all of us kids were gathered in the living room sitting in front of the one eyed monster… The TV! (Minds out of the gutter people!)
It was lunch time and the adults in the kitchen were getting ready to make sandwiches. My Mom ducked her head into the living room and asked what we wanted on our sandwiches. I ordered Miracle Whip and mustard… It was the beginning of my try something different stage.
I could hear the conversation clearly as it floated out from the other room.
Mom-”Angi wants Miracle Whip and mustard.”
Pop- “What? No she doesn’t, Angi only likes Miracle Whip.”
Mom-” I don’t know, she said Miracle Whip and mustard.”
Pop sticking his head into the living room- “Ang, did you want Miracle whip and mustard?”
Me- “Yes Please.”
Pop- “Your sure?”
Me-”Yup. ”
Pop went back into the kitchen shaking his head. I am sure he got a dirty look from my Mom for not believing her. He made the sandwiches, we all ate at the table and for the life of me I can’t remember anything else about that day. What I do remember is that my Pop knew how I liked my sandwich. He knew it with such a surety that he risked a dirty look from my mother and those are never fun to receive; sometimes they burn.
I love that he knew me that well and that he allowed me to grow by letting me have my mustard.
Thanks Pop!

My kids would never ask for mustard and miracle whip. They know I’d use the very hot Chinese mustard they hate.

Very cute story! (Mustard I can handle, but Miracle Whip is not for me….I’m a Hellmann’s girl, through and through.)

I have noticed from your posts over time that you have a good relationship with your dad.
The things about dirty looks is that dads sort of get numb to them over the years.
A sweet story!
Lovely. I had no doubt you had a wonderful parents…look at you!

Great Story Angi. Please tell your sister she had a cute nickname also. She will believe you we can even make one up. Like Danni Lambie or something LOL
@finfam2 - I know she had one… Pop gave EVERYONE a nick name… the neighborhood kids begged for a nickname… those and his readneck suspenders were a neighborhood favorite. lol They were bindertwine tied from belt loop to belt loop ove one shoulder. lol
It’s funny how such small snippets of life carry so much meaning. What a nice tribute . . .
I think our dads must have been sitting in the same awesome dad pool. Glad you got to experience a super dad.
