I’m Swipping This from Seedsower!
What was the first album you bought?
My first album/ tape… was the Footloose soundtrack. I wanted it so badly. I hadn’t seen the movie. We weren’t allowed to go to movies when I was younger. It was the only one I was ever sad I couldn’t see because all of the kids were talking about what a great movie it was at school. SO I went out and bought the music. I loved shaking my bootie to I Need a Hero! What a great song. VERY 80′s.
What can I say, I didn’t develop my impeccable musical taste until a little later in my life.

Back in the Dark Ages there weren’t any albums. LOL! Probably a Beatles, don’t remember.
Footloose was such a great soundtrack!
I have no clue! Maybe Glenn Miller….that was a very very long time ago.
I love that movie/music! We didn’t go to the movies much either and it was years after the movie came out that I finally saw it a slumber party. Same with Dirty Dancing
that movie was based on a town that was right next to the one I grew up in-anson, tx. we called it ‘no dancin in anson’. not only was there no dancin, but it was a dry county as well (like the one I was in), so no drinkin either! the kids used to get all the pick ups together over in someone’s pasture and make a circle. we’d make a big fire and dance and drink there (I think tim mcgraw did a song about that). if there was a stock pond, swimming was a possibility…usually skinny-dipping and lots of double dog dares going aroundĀ
my first album was probably an osmond brothers album-either that or donny osmond, I don’t remember. he was just so cuteĀ
I love this one too.. I didn’t go to the movies much either…me just didn’t have the money, but in my old age, I have made up for it….love the old/older movies too. I love the dancing in this….I loved to dance at our “sock hops”…try not to laugh
a-ha (Norwegian pop trio, stunning lead singer, interesting sound) their secon album Scoundrel Days fro, ’86
Grease.
…well, *I* didn’t actually BUY it, but it is the first record I remember owning and dancing around to and loving.
I saw footloose a gazillion times as a child…..it was like Goonies……you just HAD to keep going back to the theater and seeing it over and over.
It was THE weekend thing to do in the 80′s.
Take on me…take me on ^^^ from above me. Oooh, I loved A-ha just almost as much as I loved Duran Duran back in the (lame) day.:silly! Ahhh, the 80′s… they WERE fun, though.
How about your first concert, Angi? Mine was Prince….purple rain tour….ick….AND then Duran Duran.
@ilsurvive - Mine was Heart! With Micheal Bolton opening… I didn’t really know them, I drove my friend and he got our tickets… I liked Micheal… but the rest of the crowd wanted to start a riot because it wasn’t HEART! lol
My first album was actually a vinyl album…that in itself dates me.
It was “Are You Experienced?” by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. The cover art was a crazy psychedelic photograph of the band taken through a fish eye lense. It was beautiful in comparison to the tiny images printed on crystal cd cases today.
I took it downstairs into the basement and turned it up full blast on a low fidelity but high volume stereo salvaged from a tavern down the street that had just gone high tech. They installed an 8-track stereo player with remote speakers in all four corners of the bar, and gave me the “record player” that had been in there since the forties..
I am certain I scared the beejesus out of my parents who had never heard of Hendrix, let alone heard Hendrix.
“Take hold of my hand
Ohhh, but are you experienced?
Have you ever been experienced?
Not necessarily stoned, but beautiful…”
Peace
Wow, I don’t even remember my first album! They were the old kind, though! I think it might have been something from Elton John.
Kathi
Our junior high school just Foot Loose this year and it was great.
Barbara Ray. I wish I could let you listen to her.
i loved that movie!! i went to see it see it with my brat pack… there were our of us girls that were inseperable from junior high through high school… we all still keep in contact at least once or twice a week, though half of us live in south florida and half of us further north.. anyhoo… we went to see that movie and i can still remembe like it was yesterday getting yelled at by jeanne’s dad because we were dancing to the theme song footloose and jumping from bed to bed in her room. ahhhhhhh those were the days! we had our 20 year high school reunion last summer (oh man i’m getting old) and when footloose came on, we dance and laughed until our sides hurt.
my first album? foreigner’s “4 album. now those were some good tunes!!!!
Great videos–loved Footloose. My first were Dylan and Odetta.
Loved footloose. But I’d have to say the first album I owned was Culture Club. Now that’s scary!
Styx
I hope Marsha reads this because I can’t remember if it was the first one we bought but one of us purchased “The Doors”. 1967. It had an awesome pic of Jim Morrison on the cover that adorned a wall in our bedroom. You just don’t get the same effect with a CD cover. We had some good Santana too. We grew up on Marty Robbins though and I only wish I still had that original Gunfighter Ballads album. We were lucky and got to go to the movies a lot. Mama would drop us off at the “Strand” theatre on Saturdays and then she’d go buy groceries for the week before she picked us up again. Good memories you’ve brought up! Peace
i remember footloose! those funny red boots…canna remember my first album…think it was def leppard…well, the first i bought…had me momma buy a bunch before that…if ya count those um i think abba was first?
I was so 90′s I bought Nirvana’s “Nevermind” album. I was in fifth grade and had no idea he committed suicide.
Not sure what the first album was – but the first concert was Kenny Rogers! Love that gravelly voice.
Yeah, but Mom and Dad rented that movie and another one with the VCr for your birthday sleepover party. That VCR was the type that popped up. Remember that????
I don’t remember the first album that I bought myself. It was probably either the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack or the City of Angels soundtrack. Brian says the first album that he bought was Play by Moby. And the first CDs were Discovery by Daftpunk and Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers. We have some eclectic tastes I tell ya.
)
tape: i believe it was debbie gibson’s. not sure what’s the title though. electric blues? for cd: it’s jim chappel’s gone.
@Random1974 - I don’t remember that at all! It wouldn’t surprise me though. We were spoiled.
LOL! There isnt ANYTHING wrong with Footloose!!!!!
Have an awesome day Angi!
Footloose was your FIRST album????!!!!!
Oh Ang, but you are young. lol
My high school cheerleader (or was it flags) tryouts involved doing a dance routine to “Footloose”. I loved the movie and the music until then- LOL
I still kick up my heels when “Foot Loose ” comes on it is a steppy tune!
That was the “Featured Question” yesterday!!!
I like it.I submitted one but you won’t be answering it Angibaby….
It is for us folk with cellies (not jail mates either)
Cell phones…
It was “What’s your ringtone?”
They probably won’t pick it though.
But you can say”What would I pick for a ringtone?”
When people call me I hear “Me and Bobby MeGee” as a ringer ,they hear “Ring Of Fire” til I answer.
Oh,I had caffine today!
I NEVER have it but today I took Excederine!!
Off to sow Marigolds.
Love you .
^^^^ Yak,yak,yak….it’s the caffine!
Okay when I was a youngster my Uncle was a DJ and taught me my first break dance move to Footloose. It is a bomb track!
first album I bought w/ my own money… was in fact a record… Cheap Trick: Lap of Luxury… OH YEAH!!!!
OMG…that was soooooo long ago I have no idea…I was always influenced by the guys I was dating, so I know one of them was the Moody Blues, and another guy got me into Neil Young…I’ve always liked a variety of music…
in junior high i bought a-ha, take on me… it’s cool how many times it’s already come up!
Vinyl…Sweet Baby James, James Taylor…from the Columbia Record Club…OY!
Whoa! Talk about a flashback!
footloose is so much fun to dance to!
my first tape was Alanis Morrissette, first cd was Shania Twain, heehee
Maarten is something isnt he?
Sweet Baby James
The first albumn I bought was Roxette’s Tourism…sadly it wasn’t that long ago.
I… think mine was the Backstreet Boys…
yeah, i just hope we get it and no one else is in front of us or anything. it’s been for rent fo a while, so i dont know if there is something wrong with the place, if the owner is just picky about who he wants to live there, or if noone has looked at it.
i cant even remember the first c.d i ever bought, probably something like hanson. lol
I have been thinking about this question all day. I think it was Herman’s Hermits but maybe not. I do remember buying my first stero. Wow did I feel “rich”. I think I only had a couple records but Jay let me borrow his and I had to play it low because my parents didn’t “approve”. I remember listening to a 45 he had called “Brown Eyed Girl” I do not remember the artist, but I about wore that record out! I will have to look up who sang that. HMMM
Take care Angi, miss you lots.
I love Footloose! But my first album was the Grease soundtrack in the 70′s! I saved my allowance for a month!!
I think I was a lesbian as a child… my first albums were Hootie and the Blowfish and Melissa Etheridge (sp?).
Hey when you say Album are you referring to vinyl?
My first cassette tape was Madonna’s Like a Virgin which is odd for an eight year old.
@Renatojr3 - Electric Blue (2nd album). Haha. snickers and points. Debbie Gibson’s Out of the Blue (her first album) was the second cassette I bought.
yeah, that was the one. from my allowance. i had to buy it coz’ it’s the song my gradeschool teacher picked for our team’s dance. was it physical education or some english program? not sure but i remember our team getting a high mark.
