  • Got some serious work done today.

I can’t say I enjoyed it much though, it was all soldering and I am still having a hard time getting nice smooth lines.

I just don’t have the patience.

I also took some pictures of a set of beautiful doors…

but the picture just looked blah…

This is going to be harder then I thought.

  • What a great gate though!

  • my high school senior photography project was stairs… I personally love the fences- I would rather do fences than doors.  But I’m going to have to try a few just to keep my creative juices flowing…

  • You’ve got a great eye for this stuff.  Great pictures.  I wish I could take these kinds of pictures, especially when I’m on vacation somewhere.

  • Pictures are gorgeous.. but nothing beats your profile picture.. lol :) I want a copy of it in my office!

  • Ahh!  Nice pictures, but even mere pictures of that place freak me out!!!

  • @SunnyMitsu - Are you kidding! It is one of the best places ever! Since they have remodeled… You HAVE to go to Trattoria Stella… Their food is so good… and the old upholstery shop is the under ground cheese cake factory now… and there is a bakery there and two galleries and a coffee place… there are tons of hiking trails behind the buildings that are beautiful… Next time your home you have to check it out! Also did you know that the grounds have one of every kind of tree tht’s indiginous to the state of Michigan… very cool.

  • You have this ability to make the ordinary look extraordinary and that’s why so many of us keep coming back. Long may it continue!

  • For being a state hospital it sure is beautiful!!! Great pictures!!!

  • That reminds me of our state Mental Hospital. Gives me shivers….

  • RYC: If they’re chocolate, pass those puppies over. As for the Dr., if I gave them the chance, sure. But you here so many horror stories nowadays….

  • I mean hear…see? Another symptom.

  • The gate looks really, really old. In fact, the whole building does.

  • You have more patience than I do! lol

I am going to take some pics of some budding flowers!!!

  • ryc Angie,

My second post, which I wrote in late December  was a tongue in cheek appraisal of gambling.  I share your view on the traditional form of gambling for money as a forn of entertainment.

As to life?  Well, what is not a gamble?

    (smile)

In the photos above, the gates have an ominous, almost malevolent air.  As though they are sealed for all eternity.

    Full of Foreboding.

    Sinister.

I imagine them blocking the only escape from an asylum in Dickens’ Coketown.

    Sweet!!

  • @Slag_Runner - Those actually are gates at the old State Hospital… a sanitarium.   Parts of it are now a really great artist and retail community…

I can’t wait to see it when they get it all renevated.

  • those pictures are phenomenal. i am always so blown away by your talent. i guess cus you’re just so nonchalant about it.

  • You are bursting with talent …tis true Ang! The gate and color are wonderful, good eye to see it!

  • @lilms_sassy - Thanks Susan!  I think you have wonderful taste… even if you didn’t like my pictures… the fact that I KNOW you have good taste makes me feel warm and fuzzy when you compliment my pics. Thank you.

  • I love that first pic!
RYC: Thanks, she is.  She is also Canadian…MY TICKET OUTTA HERE!!!

  • Absolutely beautiful.  Did a good job!!

ryc:  Thanks … I am trying my best.  I got a long road ahead of me.

  • Wonderful color and art to that gate–love the iron work.

RYC:  A fascinating version of Twelfth Night–Victorian Era, I see!  Another charmer is Laurence Olivier’s Henry V, made on pennies during WWII.

  • I *knew* when I read that “State Hospital…” caption it was a mental health type facility… It had that creepy “Home of Lobotomies and ECT” look to it.

  • excellent work ,  it does feel as if  a person could stand and pick up vibes from those gates…and an intriguing  idea to use the grounds  the way they have.

  • Great pictures. I like the winter scene.

  • I love the pictures, Ang… Good luck with the soldering.

  • Ang…you are inspiring me to go out this weekend and take some shots….it’s funny to think that when they built the state hospital a century ago, they wanted elements of beauty and elegance.  Today they would not build it that way at all.  It’s as if they wanted us to still admire it after all these years!  Hope you don’t have to do soldering tomorrow too!  ttyl

  • absolutely beautiful pics girlie!!!

  • The details on the gate are interesting.I’d love to know the story behind them.

  • I like these a lot.
Sorry you didn’t care for the other ones you did, but I bet they are beautiful too.

    Hugs,
    L

  • Why is it always harder than we thought……..great gate Ang…..ilym

P.S.  I kinda miss the kids these days :(

  • wow-just wonderful! I love that gate. Just LOVE it!

  • I am afraid I am with a lot of commenters on this one- that photo looks really ominous…. think I will stay away… but feel free to send me a peice of that cheesecake you were talking about!

  • ryc: I just started the blogring, so I don’t have anything on it yet. I plan on it by next tuesday. you can still join tho :)

  • Doors or no doors, I love you pics. they are always mysterious and poetic in appearance.

  • I like those pictures especially the gate . It is a bit rusty but comfort this antique aspect .

    Michel
