  • You all know that I am the metaphorical ‘fencesitter’. Choosing a side or position on a subject has always been an issue for me, I vacillate back and forth as new information comes in and I’m easily influenced. This is unfortunate for me but often the joy of my children, who know they can easily get their way when dealing with Mommy.

What you don’t know about me is that I dream of fences. Yes, you read it correctly, I long for a fresh white picket and a gate that creeks when it opens or high green hedges with a pathway arch cut in the center and  glimpses of the garden offered here and there, a temptation taunting the passer by. I page through house and garden magazines curious to see the different ways people cordon themselves off from the world. Envy fills my heart at a concave pickets and french gothic cuts even a plain dog ear fence sends me off to dream land.

I’ve been told that fences represent a person closed off to the world, an introvert. One thing I have never been is shy so I may be an exception to the rule. I just know that some day I will get my fence. I wonder what I will dream of then?

    What fills your dreams?

  • What fills my dreams, Y entertainment of course, whether its DVDs or video games, or just having fun with friends.

  • I have an electric fence you can have *grin*

    Happy Wednesday Ang.

  • Perhaps you are channeling Robert Frost.  I love a good hedge, but most people don’t stay put long enough to grow one.  In fact, my family usually refers to me as Boo Radley because I am so very gregarious.

What fills my dreams?  Finding the money to start a program to get young single mothers off of Welfare and into fulfilling careers that earn a living wage.  Also, though decidedly less altruistic, finding the time to take a long soak in a hot bubble tubbie while reading a good book.

  • I have low standards when it comes to hopes and dreams.  That way dissapoinment isn’t so harsh.

I guess one would be me having a pack of smokes for tomorrow.

  • haha.. that an interesting dream I don’t tend to have repetitive dreams like that..  i almost wish i did though.

  • Damn, I got confused.  I thought you meant one of your dreams like in life dreams was to own a fancy as hell fence.  Now I get it.

My dream dreams are full of moments of isolation, terror, sex, and intense action.  Which leads me to believe I read too much.

  • My fiance broke up with me on Sunday, so I’ve been dreaming about he and I.  It’s sad.

  • maybe the white picket fence represents your longing for a simpler life.

  • I dream about conversations with people, which is kinda frightening because sometimes I wake up in a sitting position in mid-sentence with someone I now realize isn’t there at all. My husband is convinced that he drew the short stick because he has to sleep with me and my sleep issues all the time. LOL!

I love the look of fences, too; but the idea of painting one makes my skin crawl. They don’t just stay pretty and white without a lot of work… and I am so not into yard/maintenance work!

  • everyone being content thats my dream…..i dont think you are closed off at all

    Fence
To see a fence in your dream, signifies an obstacle or barrier that may be standing on your path. You may feel confined and restricted in expressing yourself. Are you feeling fenced in? Alternatively, it may symbolize a need for privacy. You may want to shut off the rest of the world.
To dream that you are climbing to the top of a fence, denotes success. If you climb over the fence, then it indicates that you will accomplish your desires via not so legitimate means.
To dream that you are building a fence, signifies a solid foundation for future wealth through your economical and industrious character.
To dream that you fall from a fence, denotes that you are in way over your head in regards to some project which you are incapable of dealing with.

  • it’s so funny that you should mention fences… today on my way to work, i found myself being fascinated not by the cows, horses, donkeys, rabbits, goats, etc. that nornally grab my attention on my travels, but instead by the miles and miles of white fencing i saw.  i don’t know why… but i just appreciated the simple beauty of the white fencing as it bordered field after field.  my question is this….is the purpose of the fence to keep those on the outside out or those on the outside in?  hmmmmmm

  • My actual dreams?  They’re weird and I don’t usually remember them.  My day dreams?  They’re occupied with a little house filled with the sounds of my children…*sigh* someday.

  • I like the old metal fences, the ones with lots of character. Couldn’t afford to buy them now days!!!

  • I am totally with you on the fence thing. and one day, I’m gonna have that fence! and there’s gonna be a big goofy dog inside the yard too and the house is gonna have roses climbing up it. I’m close now, but just not there yet. One day….

  • i dream about traveling a lot… and the color purple…

mostly i dream about sleeping, seriously, i dream that im curling up into bed for a nap all the time… its like even my subconscious wants to guilt trip me for not paying it enough attention these days

  • There have to be two sides to a fence. The introvert side and your side. Don’t worry about it.

I dream of toilets. I think it’s the strangest thing and I’m really shocked I don’t wet the bed. Mostly they are really nasty, overflowing, or some other degree of disgusting latrines, but you can be sure that in whatever I’m dreaming about, be it being chased by a monster or playing happily on the beach, my dreams will come to a point that I have to search out a bathroom.
