MASS EXODUS?
I didn’t blog about it but a few weeks ago one of the turtles disappeared. Ben was cleaning out the turtle pond and noticed Oswald was missing. Two days later he turned up in the middle of the road a little way down from our house. He had been hit by a car and was extremely dried out so Ben doctored him back up and rehydrated him and now he is almost as good as new. All of the girl turtles will stare at him and wondered how he got that dangerously mysterious and exciting crack on his undershell.
Well about a week ago, over a week ago actually it was the weekend before last we found a new hamster cage at a yard sale. The kids and I set it up and moved DRAGON, yes, our hamster is named Dragon… To his new habitat.
The next day he was gone. Cooper had opened the new cage door and it wasn’t clear if he had dropped Dragon or Dragon had just been curious and left of his own free will. After a frantic search, we gave up and decided that the little fellow would most likely turn up dead eventually. The first night I thought I heard a rustling in the kitchen but I chalked it up to wishful thinking.
This morning Ben was sitting in a room and there goes Dragon walking down the hallway! Ben called for me and chased Dragon down the hall and under the refrigerator. We put a little food out in front of the door and eventually he came out and Ben made the scramble and grabbed him! I put him back in his cage and then watched for the next hour as he tried to find an out… Our once born in captivity little guy is now hating it… he searched every corner. I watched him hang like a little bat from the wires at the top of the cage as he strained to lift himself up making any attempt he could for freedom.I have pictures, of course but I haven’t downloaded them yet.
Our menagerie is no longer happy to be held in captivity apparently. Oswald isn’t making any more breaks for it. I guess once you have met a large piece of rolling rubber traveling at high speeds over you, that would suck the desire for freedom out of anyone. Dragon however is another story, now that he has tasted freedom, I wonder how long it will be before he conspires with my youngest monster for another break out? Just in case the cage has been moved where it will be under constant surveillance. No Great Hamster Escapes on my watch.
Not again.

It is good you found him.I would hate to start smelling him later on after a misfortune!
I have a new pic up.
I’m glad you found both…alive….that could have been tragic!
not a big fan of hamsters… or other rodent type pets… but I do like turtles and I’m glad to hear that your little guy is ok… one day I’ve told ET that we could get a turtle… he wanted a fish, but I don’t do fish either… so we comprimised on the turtle, now i just have to find a decent paying job, apartment I can afford and all that stuff then… we’ll do the turtle thing…
good luck w/ all the critters!!
ttfn…
The best way to find a missing hamster is a mouse trap.
I am teasing you.
^^He is bad.
Oh, really makes me long for the day my DD gains enough responsibility to gain a snake. Can’t WAIT to have it escape. “Well, Mom, I was just holding him and then he slithered away, guess he didn’t wnat to be with me, so I let him go. He’s in your room. I think.”
Oh joy.
ryc: I haven’t played with any of the pics. A few I adjusted, but just to make them from getting tossed. I’ll play later, thanks for the idea. Five stars…is that Top 10?
that’s a cute little varmint.
you guys are so amazing you have turtles and a hamster i dont know if i can do it i had fish for years until my mom found a kitten and gave it to my daughter she was 5 there was no way i could get ride of it without her knowing. now because my daughter told my mom she wanted a dog which i never had before ever we have a dogmy son has a hamster in his class at school and he wants to bring it home on the weekends! how do you do it? i can barley keep up with the kids. lol
I have to give it Grizzle there it is kind of a cute looking little vermin.
It is indeed cooling down here, took a hike with Chew this morning and had to alternate hands in the pockets. Mid thirties here, may have been a killing frost down by the river.
awwww!!! he is so cute! i’m glad ya’ll found him.
ryc: thank you thank you thank you! i am so happy for my best friend! now we never have to say goodbye!!
oooo one more thing about one of the pics.. love love love the contrast between the size of the hamster and the two different sets of hands.. amazing!
Gas the house. You’ll find him anytime… probably not in the condition you want though.
Damn! You got some tough animals!!! If I got dried out I’d be screwed. You should feed Dragon meat. Hampsters will eat red meat…kind of creepy, huh?
long time no visit
how can a turtle survive a car running it over? wow. that is one hell of a survivor. btw, your pictures are really good, the angles and lighting are poetically wonderful. One day you should make a picture book.
well, MoSayz.com will be like a blog/news commentary site with reviews on movies, books, and whatever you guys wish for me to review. it’s still under the knife, so hopefully it will be done by October or sooner. i’ll look for u in the near future in my site.
Aw, he’s a cute little guy!!! I saved a turtle once– they are good pets.
This is a good one. LOL

Ah, this post brings back memories of my hamster chasing days!
I once had two in this house…..and it was very important that we catch them because we also had two cats in this house!
Trying to catch them is such a son of a bitch…but exciting at the same time!
Later!

DRAGON… get back in your cage and stay there! Crazy fella. Doesn’t he know how good he has it. Glad Oswald (love that name for a turtle btw) is feeling a bit better. Will his shell heal?
awesome name for a hamster
and awww- i love little animal stories with pictures!
Monster’ll probably be like John Dillinger or Pretty Boy Floyd now…..always escaping….shooting up the place and getting thrown back in the slammer again.
LOL!!! There really ISN’T ever a dull moment around you, is there????
You’re such a wonderful storyteller too!!!!!
pics, stories, friendship – is there anything you’re NOT good at????
(((HUGS)))
wow
Does Dragon have a friend? Maybe he just wants some company
as for the Oswald – man-o-man is he lucky or what! One of my weird quirks is picking up turtle shells that have been hit and left by the side of the road, and the poopers will dig them up from the creek banks and bring em to me (just the shells) keep up the watch girl!!!
Oh those were the days! Do I remember those little critters! Grand daughter wants a ferrite! With all the cats and dogs we have it wouldn’t last long around here!
Perhaps Dragon is a teenager? They get rebellious, you know. Well, you WILL know, soon enough!!
I’m with the person above who said that maybe he’s lonely and wants some company… maybe some GIRL company. LOL! Yeah, that would cause some conversations you may not yet want to have with the boy!
those pics of the escape attempt should be great
An EVIL hamster?
