  • Just got back from the beach and it occurs to me that this may be one of the last times we get to go… The sand was cold and the water had a slight chill to it.

I notice more and more bits of color in the trees, peeking out, mocking me. Fall is shouting -HERE I COME!

I love fall, don’t get me wrong. It is one of my favorite seasons. I’m just not ready for it yet. By the time it is in full swing I will be, but not yet. You know, I like all of the seasons, all except Spring.

The only really good thing about spring is it means summer is coming, otherwise it is all brown snow banks and mud. Also… The smell of spring?! People walk around saying they can smell spring… Ugh. The smell of moldy, wet earth spores  and rotting vegetation. That isn’t my idea of good. Depending on where you live there is also that freshly fertilized field smell, nothing like that!

How was that for a tangent?  Where was I? Fall… I’m not ready for it.

For now I am going to try to suck every last thing I can out of summer. Tomorrow I am dragging the kids to the beach again and a drive for barn pictures will need to be taken soon.

I hope you all are getting everything you can out of these last days of summer. Summer goes  into the second week of September so don’t close up shop on it too soon. I personally intend to wear my shorts and flip flops right up until the last day, even if it is sixty degrees out.

(Okay… so I don’t really hate spring either.. I just get tired of being so Polly Anna. I thought I should pick SOMETHING to complain about. Spring was just easiest to pick on… poor spring.)

  • and then there’s me….I hate summer and live for fall. go figure

  • It’s always bittersweet when summer turns into fall…one good thing is the kids are back in school!

  • I need the fall we are going camping in the winter so in siked

  • Your spring sounds like my winter…all mud and yuck. I like a good snowy winter. I don’t dread summer as bad as I did. It’s so humid and miserable here without some water to jump into…but I’ve got that now so I don’t dread it. Must be nice living so near a beach.

  • RYC: oh absolutely nurturing, feeding and talking to and loving your children is part of God’s plan for you!  shoot, if more mom’s realized the supreme importance of such things, this world wouldn’t be in the state it is..  when you get a chance, read proverbs 31.  that indeed is the definition of a beautiful woman..

but.. WHAT!!!  a chill in the water?  the gulf here is close to 90 degrees, and it hasn’t been below 100 degrees outside in nearly two weeks.  c’mon fall!  of course, i am a HUGE college football fan, so that could be part of my longing for fall….

Thanks for the reminder. I hadn’t thought about it at all today. It is something we tend to let slip through the cracks. I took care of my children… I nurtured them and fed them and talked to them and loved them…I know that somehow that is filling his plan for me

  • I’m so fecked for the winter,  the sun  has not come out in three months,  give or take a day or two here and there…  I’ll be so depressed  :)

Thanks for the words about the technical end… you’re right you know,   one can try too hard…  but I think the photos I have need little in work,  I just have to decide  whats going to work… and then print them…  I’m down to 60  from  2000…  its a long “shortlist”    …

It should be easy but its not,  I’ve given myself till 4am to figure it out…   starting now…  bugger.

    Thanks again,  you’re so right.

  • I like them except Fall. Jim has e-mailed me. Very cordial but not much going on there really. oh well.

  • Fall is my favorite, I live for the first crisp day I can put on jeans, boots & a sweatshirt….

Can’t take the summer when the temp goes over 85, winter is just too cold, spring too wet. Love the changing leaves, just not the raking…LOL

RYC: Thanks for stopping by, have a great week, Rainy

  • Oh man– I love fall!  I wish it would last for month!!  The smells, the leaves, the festivals!!!

  • i love the feel of the cool autumn air…tho i’ll miss the summer.   i think my favorite seasons are spring and fall :)

  • Well lucky for us, September is actually our warmest month! Go figure! I love fall too…I always associated going back to school with fall…now we start in summer, and I live in Cali, so not much fall until October here.

  • The wind blows fierce here in the Spring so it’s not my favorite for completely different reasons from yours.  The best thing about it is that everything starts turning green and I’m all about Winter being over.  The best thing about Winter is Christmas.  When it’s over…I’m ready for Summer.  We don’t get the beautiful Fall colors that people who don’t live in the desert get so I’d just as soon keep Summer.  That’s way more information than you needed and I say go to the beach and have fun fun fun!

  • The only seasons I like are the ones that involve 60 degree weather.

  • The last few years I get more then a touch melancholic at the end of summer.
The water here is getting to cold already for my old bones, summer just seems to fly by.
*I might feel different about it if we had the string of 100+ days that many people have been complaining about.

  • Well Ang, Winter is my FAVOURITE time of year…..and right now its busy coming to an end.  1 September is SPRING DAY here…….and then it means Summer is just around the corner – UGH!  At least this Summer I will have a pool to swim in at home!!!! YAY!!!!!

  • I bet you take great pics during the spring. It doesn’t sound like you ever have to “drag” your kids anywhere.

  • I swear, I’m gonna have to move back to Michigan; because Fall is no where near the Deep South, honey! It’s going to be another 100-degree scorcher of a day in Hot-lanta; and October is the first time we can truly hope for a chill in the air. Late October. Sigh.

Milk the warm summer days for all they’re worth, though, honey! And keep taking pictures. I swear you take some absolutely phenomenal barn photos. I stand by my assertion that you could do well with a coffee table photo book of those pictures… perhaps you should contact a publisher? A book agent? Why not?

  • heck -we skipped summer here in Texas-we are going from Spring to Fall.
