| Who Should Paint You: Alfred Gockel |
All American yet funky, you inspire an artist’s imagination And while not everyone will understand your portrait, you will! |
Diane Arbus is a photographer I have long admired, some of her first subjects being Freaks, a subject I also find fascinating. Occasionally I feel like one myself, although I have no reason to, unless it’s the fact that I am beyond boring and average. I suppose all of us feel like freaks at one time or another in our lives.
I’ll spare you all the portraits of hermaphrodites and drag queens and show you just a few of her other photos that I enjoy. As much as I like her pictures, I have never seen a bearded lady. I keep looking though, maybe something will turn up. I like her portrait of a king and queen at a seniors dance but I couldn’t find that one.

Those are some really awesome photos… some people are so talented, not I…, but in my dreams I am a great artist, photographer and a writer…
Hugs, Tricia
Photograper, don’t know never really thought about it but I should be painted by Edvard Munch. Or at least thats how comes to mind I didn’t take the test.
Durn spell checker anyho, thanks for pointing that out I was in need of a nap at the time and didn’t bother to proof read.
The neat thing about catching big fish in a kayak is that you can use much lighter gear, the boat becomes part of your drag.
The downside is that when they run you follow, caught a huge cat on the Snake River a couple of years ago when it was running near flood stage. That fish came close to getting me tangled up in a number of sweepers as we tumbled and spun down the river together.
Would do it again in a heart beat
who not how, seems to be my day to prove that I am not only crazy but not very bright
what I like in photos are great contrast, a crisp simplicity and emotion (like the twins above and the lady at the counter). I have dabbled in it myself, only for the sake of a stepping stone to another medium. I do enjoy taking photos of many things, but I find people the most fascinating. I will show a few sometime soon. Some have been the basis for paintings. Those pics elicit different reactions from me–mostly aesthetic. I believe photos, like most paintings are very visceral and cannot always be intellectualized—many just immediately male you feel a certain way without afrorethought. great questions, btw. Something to think about while taking pictures of certain subjects. I like portraitists particularly (not the lame kind, but the more artisticaly driven).
Those pictures make me feel awesome. They are really good.
The last one scares me very much. The twins also scare me, but I’m not sure why.
RYC: I doubt he’ll call on Monday. He had all day Friday to call me, but he didn’t. That’s just how he is. It feels AWESOME to be free!!
funny I don’t see these photos of freaks… isn’t that the painted man??? the one w/ the lady at the counter makes me feel …peaceful I think cuz i miss that siting at the coffee house, smokin’ chillin’ not a care…
as for my fav photographer… I like ansel adams… but my favorite would have to be mike peterson (haven’t heard of him? well that’s cuz he uses his vast knowledge to make computer programs…) he’s my dad… has a photography degree from columbia in chicago… and I love his pictures… very much like ansel style…
I like picures to be real… things that I can feel as real life… gritty and a little off… cuz that’s me!!! also I like the black & white ones too… unles its nature then colour… like really powerful colours, vibrant ya know…
although I like to take picures w/ patterns… anyway… ttfn…
i think we’re all freaks, honestly. there’s no such thing as normal- unless you call normal being a freak, everyone’s got some weird aspects…
i grew up with Ansel Adams around the house- dad majored in photog in college and he was his favorite.. but oh gosh- theres a photographer that i love and i cant think of her name right now for the life of me!
these photos make me want to know more, i want to ask them questions and get to know them better, i feel like the pictures are inviting me to step into the frame and learn about their lives..
i love pictures of tulips, and orchids- any kind of flower really… and pictures that make you want to see more, make you wonder what happened right after the shutter closed or just what is beyond the edges of the shot- those pictures have me standing and staring for hours just imagining the possibilities
I have read about some of her works. Pictures I find it hard to discern in style. Paintings? That is something else…
The last two – Made me feel: Weird Have a good Sunday
I got Alfred too. Imagine that. I lurves Diane. She was an huge inspiration to me while I studied photography.
RYC – You might laugh – but what with my leg in plaster – I have to be taken around the supermarket in a wheelchair to do the weekly shop – makes you realise how nothing is built to cater for those in wheelchairs – makes me scream.. cant wait til I am up and running again – and I will never ever park in a disabled spot illegally again!!
The last picture made me feel queasy!!
The only picture of these that I can say I really like is the one of the lady at the counter. It’s hard for me to look past the subject matter sometimes and see the “art” however finely composed and well crafted a photo may be. My current favorite photographer is David Molnar. You should google him and look at his work – it’s wonderful. I would have Cezanne paint me. Peace
MINE>>>Who Should Paint You: Alfred Gockel ….I knew it!!! I just knew it!!!!
Who is your favorite photographer? DUH should have thought of this yesterday,,,TRUSTY
We saw a trillion trilliums today, did a xanga search for trillium and guess who it came back with?
oh oh
got a new video of the Blueberry Slide on the Kettle River, one of our very favorite places.
I love diane’s work-amazing-simply amazing. I slipped down and looked at your glass pics-you are very talented (and have really cute kids). congrats and good luck with the glass. I just took a year off from work to see if I can write. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for worrying about me.
Thank you for the kind words and the gold stars, friend. They are always welcome. So are you.
Old Hat
Happy Birthday!
I love the lady sitting at the counter. The freak pics are interesting. I wonder what they are doing right now- assuming they are alive. I love old pictures, black and whites that were black and white in the olden days. Modern pics done in black and white unnerve me. I don’t have a fave photographer.
Hehehehe…”Gockel”. I might have gone with Andy Warhol.
Great photos!
These are great pictures! I appreciate anyone who can take a great picture. Off hand, the only photographer’s name that comes to mind is Anne Geddes .. I love her photos of babies. There are quite a few very talented photographers on Xanga … eneventure and seedsower are the first to come to mind!! I’m in awe of their talent, since I have absolutely NO talent whatsoever .. well, just not in photography!!
Have a great Monday, Angi!!
Alicia
These pictures just make me feel weird – lol!
ANDY WARHOL should apparently be painting my picture….
You’ve got an interested edge that would be reflected in any portrait
You don’t need any fancy paint techniques to stand out from the crowd!
