Okay now this just isn’t fair. I was looking at the dirty little foot prints on my site and noticed someone I didn’t know had been peeking at my pages. Well, of course I’m all out there for the world to see and I don’t mind. It’s not like you can tell if my hair isn’t brushed or I’m picking my nose. If my house is dirty or the dishes aren’t done. You can definitely tell I’m in a slump and nothing is going on, which means I need to shake something up soon. Life is too short to be boring.
But thats not the point, I figure fair is fair. If their checking me out, I should be able to check them out. We all do it. Isn’t this how we find others we share interests with and make friends? So I went to go to this persons site and they have FRIENDS LOCK. I didn’t even know this was a possible thing. If I have something I don’t want someone to read I post protected and sneak a few in… I’ve never done that though. I never have anything to say that’s really that interesting.
Maybe that’s the challenge, something exciting enough to be protected, Nah, My boring life isn’t THAT boring. All the protected posts I read are spousal problems and teen angst. Both of which are okay for others but I hope not to have to deal with either. My kids are skipping their teens straight into college, and the spousal issues, well if I ever let Ben out of his cell in the basement I’ll deal with those then.
Off on a tangent I go again.
So if no one can come to your site, how do you make friends? Why would I want to be your friend If your such an elitist snob that I can’t look at your posts until you decide you like me enough to INVITE me to read them. Okay, I don’t know this person so I have no idea if their a snob. See what I mean?! Maybe I’m over reacting here but I just don’t get it.
I guess if you had a stalker, you might do something like that but isn’t that what USER BLOCK is for to keep all the creepy people from sending you ‘Your soul is going to Hell!’ messages and the old men from hitting on you even when you’ve told them your happily married and have three children and Just aren’t that kind of girl? I mean that’s what I use mine for.
So I ask you the smart, intelligent and in my mind, always good looking people who read my posts, to explain this to me.

I can’t explain it, but I’m definitely on your side.
yeah, i don’t quite get the friends lock right now. but i will immediately block people who have NO content on their page (ie their page is set up explicitly for cruising other peoples’ blogs). i realize i’m super paranoid, but i’d like to at least know a little about who’s reading me.
maybe you should just block whoever reads you that has “friends lock.” fair’s fair, right?
I love it. I have a lock but no friends lock. It is more so I don’t have randoms searching for me, specifically you know?

Peaking or going back countless days on end? I have gotten that a lot here as of the last month.
I go to there sites and evaluate the age thing 25 or older and then their content and block them, I don’t want to go totally protected so I make it a point to take some time in the morning to do this,.I get it I really do.

I get it. It’s creepy cuz there are a LOT out there.
I know some people have friends lock for some very specific reasons so I dunno… It’s when they STALK and LURK that I think is lame.
Great rant! Yesterday was my turn. It must be going around. I just now started to check my footprints. It is interesting. I’m here to make friends so I don’t get blocking people out, if they can’t read your post then how do they know whether they want to meet you or not. I would have not meet many wonderful xanga friends if they would have blocked sights. Hope you have a wonderful evening.

Not really sure why someone would go cruisin’ through other xangan’s sites only to have a block on their site so you could not reciprocate to find out if you want a new friend. I repeat I am tired and better hit the hay because that seems like a lot of nonsense on my part, lol.
it’s all commentinging…we just need someone to come and sayinging sumthing…
I can see both sides of this, and think you’re right. It’s remnant of jr. high, when if you liked a girl, you’d get all of your friends to run recon and come back with any and all information. Most of that being, not only false but heresay. Blogging on the other hand, is different. I just can’t figure out how.
ps. love that album, and have sung it at the top of my lungs on occasion, hope that doens’t make me a lesbian. Have a good night.
I loved the ranting – I have also tracked down a footprint or two – to be stopped cold by that lock. Not fair! But, what can you do about it? I say NADA – unless you also want to block everyone. I havent been bothered by any strange creepy stalkers people – but, hey … I’ve only been on here since March…so am happily waiting for the 1st

I don’t care who comes to my site, but I too have been stopped dead in my tracks byt he “Friends Lock” thing. I guess some people just use Xanga to share things with people they know instead of using it as a social outlet or what have you. I don’t worry about it too much, I guess.
