Let the festivities begin! We had our church trick or treat tonight so the kids got to wear their costumes in public. This year our house has a Balrog, a cobra ninja and a camouflage gorilla…
Have any of you ever tried to make a flaming demon? Let me tell ya it ain’t easy. First I found some large rubber wings. those are cool, then I got the black sweat suit and took orange and red netting and pinned it under the wings so that it would look like flames, and last we took the helmet with horns from last years viking knight costume to top it off. Charlie really liked it for an hour as he tested it around the house and then he decided that he felt like a horned ballerina. So I started with should we paint it? No that would look to flat he says… Well, I told him to come up with something or we could just take the net off and he could be a regular demon because short of setting him on fire I was out of ideas… He decided he liked the netting. I know bad Mommy.
I’m sure we’ll come up with something. We have a few days. Isabelle was in heaven with her costume. She is such a tom boy, I love it. She said that next year she really wants me to make her the pink eyeball monster though, Well, I’ll worry about that one next year.
Cooper freaked a bit when he saw all the costumes, so we spent a lot of time sitting in the hall way. He did play bobbing for apples though. He spent two minutes standing watching a teen chase an apple around with his teeth not being able to get it. Cooper finally pushed the boys face out of the way, grabbed the apple and gave the kid the dirtiest look you ever saw. It said see you dumby you pick it up! Then he took a big bite and toddled away.
I guess that’s enough babbling for now. Here’s to surviving the rest of the Halloween hoopla! Ang

You MAKE your kids Halloween costumes? Wow.
I usually sew at least one costume a year from scratch. This year I copped out and didn’t have to sew any though, just rig a lot. Next year I won’t be so lucky though Isabelle really wants to be the eyeball monster but she ddn’t tell me that until yesterday and I couldn’t find anything I wanted to make it. Such is life. Ang
My ex mother in law used to make costumes too. They were pretty cool. Where are you up north, lol? And Taylor… I’ve been so long away from Michigan that I can’t put it together. I think it’s near Grand Rapids, or perhaps in the Detroit area. My family is from between Kalamazoo and Lansing. Got to decide how to dress for halloween as I am invited to a dress-up party on friday. What fun!
Sounds like your a great Mommy. My daughters have purchased my grandkid’s costumes this year. I remember when my girls were small, we would all dress up and go out and visit the relatives on Halloween. I have a picture of my ex husband in drag – nice boobs – hairy legs – very tall for a woman
I still laugh when I see that picture. Keep having fun!
I have a feeling this costume making thing steams from “here girls here is a cane, you are now Charlie Chaplin” or “here cut this paper plate in half you are a mouse” “or where dad’s coat you are Sam Houston”
Um. What 6 year old knows who chaplin is?
You know that is really cool, making your kids costumes. most folks just buy them any more, easier and faster.
Mom always used to make ours when we were kids, I have 3 younger sisters. That was a million years before Wal-Mart. Back then nobody ever gave you bad stuff, and we did not worry about someone snatching us up. [sigh] Times were not so stressful then.
Happy Thursday to Ya.
how cute of cooper!!!!!!!!
I can’t believe you MAKE costumes. I’m in awe, and I bow down to your greatness.
Brandon has 2 costumes this year– one for Halloween and one for church. The church one is the Big Bad Wolf, and the Halloween one is a Little Devil.
Never did understand bobbing for apples myself! lol Halloween is fun! Here the stores within the city give treats from 3pm -5pm, so it is safer for the kids. It has been an annual thing for the past few years and there are lots of costumes to check out! It is kind of funny when the kids are little and they get freaked out from the costumes. Two years ago, when Adrian was 3, he freaked out over a store owner dressed as Chewie,(Starwars character). I had to pick him up and carry him awaay from the guy. After walking around uptown we take the kids to relatives for trick or treating.
do you mean a homosexual demon?
Way to go, Cooper! RYC: My costumes are almost done. D3 is going to be a pink fairy creature, but I’m not done with that one yet. D2 wanted to be a beer wench. The costume was $50. I said, “We’ll make you one.” We got all of the stuff to make it for $10. I love the clearance racks! She’s ready to go. DH and I are being very unPC. He is going to be Steve Irwin the day of the incident, and I’m going as a kid from the short bus. All I have left is to cut the stingray out of fun foam, and we’re ready to go.
oh, i meant it as a joke, sorry. of course we only want our loved ones to be happy!
that must have been a rough night.
RYC: Thanks for the video info. I’ll check it out.
