  • Yes my brain is full of pointless things and I like it!

In a recent conversation with a friend, I realized that I no longer know what my favorite movie is. There are just so many of them out there. If you had asked me when I was younger I would have said ‘A Room With A View’ and ‘The Naked Gun’ movies, but now that I’m ancient I’ve seen so many more movies and I just don’t know.

Young Frankenstein, any Mel Brooks movie really, deserves consideration. Although I can’t say I was fond of the Producers. I’ve been a big  fan of older movies and slapstick comedies, I really love the scene in Woman of the Year where Kate Hepburn tries to cook Spencer Tracy an egg, I love that there’s no music, you just hear her trying to cook an egg and my laughter at her ineptitude.

I’ve gone through a horror movie stage and the phycological thrillers. Dead Ringers still gives me the creeps. The sappy-drama-chic flick stage, Sense and Sensibility and Howards End. Scifiction is often fun, but only when it’s not too hookey. IRobot just couldn’t hold a candle to the book, but isn’t that always the case. Actually The Princess Bride is the only movie I’ve ever seen that I considered as good as the book and I think that was because the author was a screenwriter.

Now I think I’m on movies-with-relevance stage, as the most recent things I’ve seen have been Hotel Rwanda and Crash. Crash I was super impressed with, I love it when a movie forces you to think and consider your life and how your living it.

Okay, the point of all this babbling is, I’m open to suggestions. What are the movies that wowed you guys? I want to know. Why do you think you liked them so much and why do you think I will? I know it’s a tough assignment. But I need some definition here, I need to once again be able to say…My favorite movie is…

  • speaking of “movies with relevance”, have you seen The Constant Gardener? that’s the most recent movie to blow me away.

  • I’ve decided not to have a favorite movie… First of all, I don’t watch that many (I really need to find more free time in my world!) and secondly, there are two many good ones to choose just one. I am quite fond of Forrest Gump; and I LOVE the Lord of the Rings movies, entertaining epics that they are. Dirty Dancing always ranks high with me; partly because I saw it seven times when it first came out & loved the music. The Big Chill is one where I liked the soundtrack more than the actual movie… funny! Anyway, just enjoy all of them for their differences; and don’t feel pressure to pick just ONE favorite. :)

  • You have picked out two of my all-time favorites too! Young Frankenstein and The Princess Bride were the first DVDs I went out to buy when I got my first DVD player. Also picked up Amadeus and Monty Python’s Holy Grail – both great flciks that make me laugh. I am a huge fan of horror movies as a genre – The Exorcist, Alien and Hellraiser are all in my top flicks. But I agree with you – there are just too many movies that I like to have just a Top 5. Not to mention all the ones I haven’t seen but want to.

  • I’ve been wanting to see Crash. I’m going to have to rent it. I really like chick flicks. Can’t stand anything scary or any kind of horror at all. I have the same favorite movie forever, “Sound of Music”.

  • I am with Haynes94  nothing scary for me.. but then you know that…give me good old HGTV …or girl movies..I want it lite and fun  nothing heavy…..So I lov anything we take those beautifull grandkids to see it is always just fun knowing they are enjoying themselves …Hugs MOM…

  • I personally didn’t care much for Crash. I recentely had a Film class in college and I watched Shawshank Redemption and Gattica to name a couple(we had to watch a movie every week and do a write up on it). Both these movies are good examples of the strength of the human spirit. However, I can’t say these were my “Favorite” movie. You have given me something to ponder on….

  • Solid choices- & I agree- it is just too hard to pick 1 favorite of things (movies, songs, bands, books, etc) the longer I live! I like all sorts of things…

I agree with Crash & Hotel Rwanda- Dan & I both saw & really liked both of these. I liked how in Crash everybody’s story winds up tying in together… movies like that interest me. Ever seen Memento? That’s another cool (very different than others you’ve seen I’m sure) movie to check out.

As for my personal old school favorite- Say Anything- you just can’t go wrong w/ Lloyd Dobler. Love Lloyd Dobler. And that Peter Gabriel song, too- it’s one of my faves! And DMB. See- they’re like Lay’s chips… you can’t pick just one.

  • Ok well my favorite is ” Legend Of Zorro”, just because of the friesains.

  • I don’t have a favorite anymore.  Princess Bride and Monty Python in Search of the Holy Grail are probably my top two, but there are so many other contenders:  Rain Man, Born on the Fourth of July, Grease, The American President, Amadeus, Zoolander.  I have to agree with Shirlann on the soundtrack vs. movie The Big Chill.  I still listen to that cd all the time, but can take or leave the movie.

  • seriously, such a difficult and open-ended question.

i love BAD horror, like “chopping mall” and “basketcase.”  but good movies–hell, good movies could take all day to list.  “the producers” from 1968 is my favorite comedy.  “welcome to the dollhouse” is weird and great, as is “ghostworld.”   i dunno.  there are many, many more…  i’m a film junkie.

  • Hmmmmm….. movies?  What are those?????

Seriously, it has been soooo long since I have even had the time to sit down and watch a movie, from beginning to end, without being interrupted.  I will have to sit on this one and ponder it for a bit…..

So how are you doing? I have been very busy lately and have not had much time to do anything, except for eat, sleep, and work…..  I will hopefully be getting caught up on everything tonight or tomorrow….until then, catch ya laters!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gosh, I like about all kinds of movies, action, sting, love stories as long as the guy gets the girl in the end, hate it when something happens to one of them, comedies are great, love to laugh.so I guess I really don’t have a favorite.

Ryc  We had a super fun day at the track.

  • Favorite movie?  Like we’re supposed to pick just one!?  That’s crazy.  I agree with Shackpacker that love stories are good – only as long as the guy gets the girl in the end.  I hate movies with sad endings.  If everyone else says a movie is good and I say I hated it – then you know it didn’t end happily.

  • Haha, no problem. How you doin?

  • This is right up my alley!

I will list some and if you haven’t seen it already, you can just google it.

Au Revoir Les Enfants, A Room with a View, The Royal Tennenbaums, Lord of the Rings…

  • Hi! thanks for stopping by my site, you are allways very welcome. Tonight we should be having a ghost story of somekind, altho i may have something else.

Mmmm, todat i was thinking about one of my favorite flims, ” Six Degrees of Seperation” with Will Smith in a most  uncharacteristic role. its very imaginative.

looking forward to hearing from you the future,

    Adm
