  • Cooper and I had to go for a drive today.

    Cooper 4 part 3 and 4 Cooper 4 part 2

    Cooper 4 part 3 and 4 cooper 4 part

    Cooper 4 part 2

Cooper, I want a picture of the tree… Cooper could you… COOOPER!

    tree in a field 1

This tree… I keep thinking I can get a better shot of… for some reason I am always disappointed.

This is my in the ditch tree…

tree alone in a snow storm

This winter I took this picture of it and then slid into the ditch when I tried to leave.

    tree frame

I like this shot I think… I like the frame the branches make…

tree frame creepy black and white

I like it more with the red filter.

    What do you think?

    deer blury

On the way home we found this girl. She was posing so pretty like a super model…

Unfortunately she had ME who has a new camera and still doesn’t know how to USE it…

She only stuck around for five shots before she left, unfortunately it was on the fifth shot I figured out I need to turn off my auto focus so that I could get the camera to focus on HER instead of the branches.

    What a yutz I am…

Any ideas on how I can capture the tree so that it is a BETTER picture?!?

Or should I just give it up?

  • Beautiful photography! Love that last picture of the tree!

  • I think you have got some great shots!!! I do like seeing the tree and its branches which frame the shot!!! Good job catching the shot of the deer!!!

  • You know what I thought when I saw the four with Cooper?  You should have posed him right in front of it, so that the leafless branches fan out like hair when someone touches a Vandergraaf machine in a science museum.  Get him to make an O-mouth surprise face.  Priceless.

  • I think that winter shot is pretty much perfect. Definitely worth the slide into the ditch!

  • I like the Maxfield Parrish-esque sky. It is a nice contrast with the branches and the gold/brown of the ground.

  • maybe you’ll have some luck with this trick of picking the crappiest day, the crappiest-but still day time light, maybe a light drizzly rain (not heavy or your camera might drown itself)….now under an unseen! umbrella get miserably uncomfortable next to a grouchy child complaining of your mission and your sanity… frame the picture with a bungler’s devotion to the perfect angle and lighting and then proceed to let distractions daunt you a little, then snap the shot your least proud of-that is a shot.  Take this home and, adjust brightness down but contrast up, max the color saturation, then flip the color values.  odds are this will make the best picture in the universe that’ll wow you or maybe just your friends.
now, if you aren’t the photoshop genius or a GIMPer like I was until my computer sipped up that last night’s drink…oops, DO NOT DESPAIR!-I’m not necessarily speaking greek or geek.  my old sony has a nifty negative image feature…of course my brother gave that to his ex and then forgot to get it back prior to break up….hiss, you can still try this out a lot easier than trottin down to the library to go cuckoo bird learning exotic imaging software….www.gimp.org is available across pc mac and linux FREE…. but, tutorials I have not found.
now, for an example or two of negative imaging…with hopefully positive results.

both are full color pictures just as negatives….trust me, the day was all overcast wintery yuckFU… but it was much fun and the pictures were my neat of the day.

  • Those with your kid in front of the tree couldn’t be any better!

  • @Uncious - The weather idea is a great tip!

  • I have a favorite tree that I shoot all the time too, and most of the time I’m not happy with it either. I think you’re are great…especially the one where the branches frame the photo.

  • What do you see wrong with the tree? Your shots look great to me! Love the deer shot!

  • the red filter definitely makes the image more striking. try shooting with a polarizing lens filter. that will make your image as striking as the b&w one, but in colour

  •  We’re tree photoing people too! Umm, late afternoon golden light is kind of cool. I’d also try to get it when the first new leaves begin budding out, kind  of a “springs first green is gold ” effect.

  • Did Cooper water the tree?  Just asking.  I miss your kids since you went to work – hah, you probably do too.  They always make me smile.  I like seeing your tree pictures and hope you don’t give up on it.  There are two trees in Oklahoma that I call the sisters and your tree photos always remind me of them.  I like the winter photo.  Peace

  • So THAT’s what a red filter does!  Awesome!  I’ve had one that I got with my first Rebel a couple of years ago and still have never tried it out.  I do love the picture of the tree as a frame and the way you shot it with the red filter.  Beautiful.  I do like the picture of the first tree (the one you’re trying to get a better shot of).  Maybe it has something to do with the light.  Maybe try the polarizing filter as mercyless1 suggested?  I don’t really know what else to suggest, but I do know you have some fantastic shots!

  • @mercyless1 - Great idea!~ I even have a polorized filter and I haven’t used it. I’ll whip it out next time.

  • that is the trouble with fancy camera’s by the time you get it all ready the bird has flown. lol

the last tree photo in the b&w is the best. If you’re not satisfied-keep going.

  • i like the two shots of the framing branches, too!  i’m a big fan of shooting upward.  i wonder how that would look, if you aimed up towards the tree, exaggerating it’s size in a way.

  • @ideaguy - That is a GREAT idea. I wish I had thought of it. I will be using it next time we go by there.

  • I love, love, LOVE the b&w of the tree…

  • Mornin Glorie…of course I like the one with cooper in them….but try taking early morning or late evening – I love the light then…..Have a Great Weekend Ang – What were your new signs this week?

  • Don’t give up! Although I have no tips to give you to make it better lol

  • These are GREAT pictures! Thanks for sharing them :)

  • Hi Good Morning to you.congrats for the pics.they look great to me too!I use mostly film camera–I have Canon AE1 Program  and Nikon FM2– for calendar snapshots on a single theme.USD 1000 for 12 pics.Adventurous of course, often slightly risky too(esp with wild animals and rivers ).Love it.Never tried digital at all.Trying to buy a Swedish Hasselblad if available!!(50 mega pixels)

  • the black and white pic of the tree is amazing.  i think it is perfect already!

  • I always love your pics, new camera or not. The red filter tree is stunning…frame worthy!

  • Both are nice but I like it more with the red filter too.

  • I always have been amazes to see a tree alone ar the middle of a field . I posted also about this in the far past and I understand you are also interested by this . Finally it is your tree , Ang .

I like the last  photo of the ” girl ” standing quietly and looking at you with condfidence

    Love
    Michel

  • Draw the tree. Photograph it 100 times. Paint it. Do a charcoal rubbing of the bark. Climb it. Press the leaves in the pages of a book. Write poems about it and sing to it. Then you will have no more need for the perfect picture, you will have the perfect memory. Isn’t that why we take pictures in the first place?
