  • FOODIE POST

I haven’t done one in awhile. This isn’t exactly recent, it’s from a few Detroit trips ago.

One of the things I love about Detroit is the FOOD options.

Here in Traverse City there just aren’t that many  options… if you like meat and potatoes your covered.

When we go to Detroit I like getting takeout from The Sushi House.

the rest of new years eve 013.jpg

My favorite sushi place in Michigan.

This time we went in though… and we sat down… at a table… and we ordered!

    my man and a menu

It was hard to make a choice, everything there is SO GOOD!

    miso soup and salad

    I even like the sides.

I love me some Miso soup!

We finally settled on two rolls.

    farmington roll

    The Farmington  roll

(crab meat, cucumber, unagi and avocado)

    house special roll

The House Special Roll, my favorite!

(shrimp tempura, cucumber, unagi, avocado and crab meat)

I have a close up of this one, it’s cute caterpillar design… but it kinda looks scary close up.

Yeah, they were very alike.  We didn’t realize we had ordered almost the same thing until they came, they just sounded so good!

    Beef sukiyaki

To finish up we had a bowl of Sukiyaki Beef…

We were too stuffed for desert.

I suppose I’m reminiscing because Ben and I are off to Detroit again this weekend for his birthday.

I am sure that we will be going out to eat somewhere… somewhere of his choosing… The possibilities are endless.

Will it be Greek food? Mexican? Indian? Sushi again? Thai… I’m pretty sure it won’t be Thai as he’s allergic to peanuts!

What will it be I wonder… Whatever it is, it will be an adventure in eating!

    miso bowl

If you could eat any kind of food right now, what would it be?

    Is anyone else hungry?

  • yummers. If I could I would have sweet green curry with tofu and fresh beef spring rolls from a thai place in Minneapolis I love.

  • I am actually hungry.. I want more of that cheese cauliflower soup I had for lunch

  • LOL sushi most definitely doesn’t make me hungry but I am always all about Italian food. Mmmm. Actually right now I don’t really feel like eating because I feel a bit sick… so maybe a nice smoothie.

  • @LucyWrites - I’m sorry you feel sick! I hope it wasn’t my post! Feel better!

  • Well, now I’m hungry for sushi! yummo!  When D gets fresh salmon from the big lake, we love to make sushi and sashimi with it. Sticky rice isn’t really that hard, but my sushi rolls aren’t very purty yet.

  • Hah, you’ve succeeded in making me hungry for sushi!

  • I had sushi for lunch and it was wonderful!

  • I like Thai and Mexican, but right now I could go for a big platter of linguini with clam sauce and fresh baked garlic bread! Yeah, I’m a little hungry, too!

  • Well Mornin Glorie….maybe this is sushi sorta but I would have a couple dozen oysters on the half shell and good cold beer   HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BEN  and have a good and safe trip…..ilym

  • It looks quite yummy! I just had a great dinner, so I couldn’t eat a thing at the moment.

  • well now i want that caterpillar thingy!

  • You are adventuresome!  Interesting food.  As close as we’ll get to that is salmon in the salmon cakes for dinner.

  • @lilms_sassy - Oh it is so yummy! You would love it!

  • Fresh blue crabs, cooked in seawater with a little Old Bay seasoning, over a fire, on a beach (of course).  Your pics made me hungry!  Thanks for sharing…I think.  Peace

  • I could go for a nice surf and turf. Maybe a hot artichoke dip with tortillas for an appetizer, a 10 oz slab of rare prime rib and a 1/2 a lobster, a twice baked potato with bacon and sour cream topping, some green beans quick fried in a hot wok lightly salted all accompanied by a fresh garden salad with a creamy Itallian dressing and chunks of blue cheese. Are you buying?

  • now i have to go out and have me some Japaneses food

  • Mexican food is my favorite!

  • Anything? I’d go back down to Jacksonville beach and eat at that little Italian cafe and have me some of theeee best spagetti and meat balls I ever ate. i went 2 nights in a row to eat there…the same thing. But since i can’t go there, I’ll just have a can of soup.

  • Honestly? I am in the mood for an Arby’s roast beef sandwich with curly fries and a Jamocha shake. Not gonna find that here, though!

  • Damn girl you are making me hungry. Lobster. I would eat Lobster.

  • @Aloysius_son - *drooooooling*  Now that you can get in TC… so… if you make it this far I imagine the least I could do is buy you dinner!

  • @siennachartreuse - MMM Grilled lobster! This post was a BAD idea! Nothing I eat today is satisfying and I can’t stop drooling! lol

  • I am not someone who is into sushi, but my hubby would be happy to join you anytime! He LOVES sushi.  I love Greek or Italian, yummy!!! I loved living in Chicago and going to Greek town. I have a friend who always takes us back whenever we visit! I love hearing her order in Greek too!!!

  • I love sushi, but don’t go for the eel. I always tell them to not add the unagi. The rolls look so yummy.

  • I LOVE Japanese  food, but not sushi.  Great pics though!

  • unagi is my absolute favourite thing to eat at japanese restaurants!!

  • I love all the different Lebanese options in the Detroit area, but there sure are some great sushi restaurants here, too.

I had to chuckle over the sushi named after Farmington.

  • When we eat Noddles we always use chop stick,

  • I’ve never tried sushi.  Did you know that TC was recently called on of the best places to eat in Michigan?  My co-worker saw that in a food magazine last month and shared it with me.

  • @SunnyMitsu - There are some great resturants here… Amical, Modes Bum Steer, Boones long Lake Inn, Tratoria Stella… but they aren’t really what I would call ETHNIC eateries… There is a new one downtown that I’d like to try called Red Ginger…

  • @red -  My husband does, I’m not that talented! I can eat other things with them…

  • @angi1972 - Oh, I see.   It seems like so much has changed in TC in the past six years, it’s hard to keep track of what’s up there now.  I haven’t eaten at most of the ones you’ve mentioned.  Speaking of TC changing, have you been to the high ropes course at Pirates Cove yet?  That looks like fun!

  • @SunnyMitsu - We were going to go this summer but haven’t had the time or money yet but it does look fun. Let me know how it is if you guys make it there.  You and M have to try Modes or Boones… GREAT prime rib my favorite at both places though is the duck… oh my mouth is watering again! This post was a mistake!  I have been none stop hungry since I did it.

  • @angi1972 - My sister works at the high ropes course.  She said it was fun!  Modes or Boones.  Check.  I’ll have to treat him next time we go up!

  • Normally I’m a big fan of Greek food, but I just had some today for lunch, so I’m pretty satisfied right now.

  • No time to comment. Have to go get some food.

  • Thai! I love Thai Som Tum and some  dumplings!
