Fiddle, faddle, ferns, and twaddle…
Went for a walk in the woods yesterday.
Ferns unfurling fascinate me, I don’t know why, I just love the way they look.
I’m not sure what kind of fern this one is, maybe an ostrich fern?
We picked up a frog for the water garden.
This year we are putting chicken wire over the garden, hopefully that will discourage any racoons from a frog leg snack.
I still want that macro lens…
but I’ve been doing a little research and I might try some extension tubes first…
Can’t hurt!
Alright I’m done babbling… Feel free to take over!

I’d like to hear what you have to babble about!

Those are Fiddleheads. They are delicious!
Great pictures. Poor frogs… hope you find a way to keep ‘em around!
Lovely! I think you take great pics even without fancy lenses!
Those are very lovely photos. Do you have a regular digital camera? Most of them have a macro setting built in.
are extension tubes better?and by better I mean less expensive (especially for a starter-outer like me)
I would bable
this fern would be able to be Polystichum montanum or Polystichum filix mas . But we have to wait a more advanced stage to see the shape of the groups of spores below the leaves .. I have a fern bed in front of my house .
Love
Michel
Unfurling ferns are lovely. I did an orb covered in them. It was one of my favorites…
@Undercover_Librarian - Actually I have a Nikon D80… it has enterchangable lens
@shatterFocus - I don’t think they are better… just a cheaper way of getting a closer shot… I’m not sure exactly how they work, but after I get mine and I’ll play with them I’ll keep you posted!
@fauquet - I never thought of looking on the other side of the leaves! You are so smart! I will look for an identification book to take with me.
@Bricker59 - I thought this one…

Was a fiddle head… It could be a different stage, but the one in the above post was growing differently too… Whatever the one in the link is, the ants sure thought it was yummy! lol
my maiden name was Brooks -so you know what the teachers called me and my sisters.
@angi1972 - No idea what the ants are enjoying. But your pic is a Fiddlehead!!
Looks like you’ve got a good lens on there alredy Ang.Great shots
I think Bricker is right. They look like fiddleheads to me, too.
Aren’t ferns just fascinating!!!!
Those are some cool pics! I’ve never seen anything like that!
Did your Mother ever tell you she should have named you Brook, since you babble so much?
@dingdongdingbat - I’ll ask her!
@Aloysius_son - You always babble! But today when I ask for it you just smile! ! ! Oh your a cool mister…
How dare you suggest that I babble! I RAMBLE! Big difference!
yep – it is fiddlehead time at OK corral – and the local Coop! HA! Yummy, and a great photo, too. Thanks.
i love ferns too…. unfurling. my yard is full of them. beautiful until they are big enough to lose a cat in and they’ve seen a few wind storms. lovely pics!
Wow. This reminds of when I used to go blueberry picking in the forest when I was a kid. We used to see plants like this all the time.
Mornin Glorie….I think fiddelhead too – besides who wants to argue with Brick (well – that could actually be kinda amusing) – BUT – I’m babblin on like a cat eatin briars this mornin – my son Jordan just called and grandbaby #3 will be a BOY
…early October….also I agree with danish doll – you take the greatest pictures with the lense your using…..and I just wish I could find my disposable camera
….ilym
babbling is good and entertaining. so some times a photo cant capture a flower/ferns true beauty but i think you do a damn good job at that!!
They’re lovely pics
eh, let me start by saying, you’re doing something wrong with your outdoor shots.. there I said it. Now don’t feel bad, caused it took me ages to realise how important apeture is to definition.
When you take a shot in the daylight of a flower at a distance within 1 meter. you need to have apeture set high. like 9 or 11 and a film speed or 200 – 400 and shutter speed of about 750 - Change the shutter speed all you want with relation to the time of day and available light but work with this apeture fixed high. like 9 or 11.
Your camera will allow all these setting on the M setting.
Hopefully.
Also vary your angle of attack, shoot from all four sides to see the different angle to subject makes.
It will really define the hairs on the plant and the clarity you wish for. The clarity is fine, but it can be much hotter, even without a macro lens
@OwenHiggins -THANK YOU SO MUCH OWEN!! I can’t wait to go try it!
@OwenHiggins - I have been struggling and getting pissed over everything being all washed out and over exposed… I don’t know how to fix it… I’ll try your advice.
