I finally got one of my big pieces finished.
It’s taken a little longer because I’ve been making little stockings and stars for the Glass Company.
I probably have seven hours invested in him…
and I used all scrap glass from my other projects.
Now I just have to cross my fingers and hope that the right person comes in and wants him for their garden.
I’m not really sure what to price him at even, I’m hoping the guys at the glass company will know.
Here’s a loaded question…
What would you pay if you were going to buy this in a store?
Don’t worry, you won’t hurt my feelings.

How big is he? Based on what I’ve paid for gazing balls and the like, I think I’d expect to pay between $25 and $35 for him if he’s the size I’m thinking – 10 inches tall?
He’s really really nice though. So I may be low-balling here.
@quiltnmomi - He is actually about sixteen inches tall at the highest point and weighs about thirty pounds…
Thanks for your input QM!
Count 7 hours of work + the art + social taxes . 50 dollars ?
The problem is I don’ t see well the size ( lack of scale to refer )
Love
Michel
okay with that scale, I agree with Michel – more in the $50 range.
Mass produced I say $29.95 However with the time it took to make your piece Between $100& $150 would be on the low end. Have a great Sunday, I think the piece is wonderful and no I can’t afford it! Darn!
Whatever , Ang , I am glad to see your work and I complimente you , if you allow it .
Michel
I am the wrong person to ask about pricing, but he is a handsome fella!
Wow your work is beautiful. I’m not very good at pricing things but I hope you get a good price for him given that so much love and attention and time has gone into him.
I have no clue about $’s…..In pounds, I would say about £30….. Gorgeous by the way….work out minimum wage for one hour…which is £5.45 here and then add whatever on……I’m not sure what that is in $’s ~ LOL. Sheesh – 7 hours is already more than £30……
$100.00 (which includes the tax, time taken etc).
Those are so neat looking!! Awesome!
I have a friend who does similar work. Two years back she covered a bowling ball with glass like this and charged me $20. It looked good. Your pieces are absolutely beautiful. I would probably pay about $35 to 45, only because there are many artists who are doing a lot of handicrafts like this and there is a lot of competition in prices.
I left the ball out in winter and the pieces fell out of it. The birds also like to peck at them. I had my friend make me another and brought it in last year, but the pieces are not very well glued I think. Many of them fall on the grass, and I am afraid the birds might get injured when they peck at them.
Wow, that’s cool, especially from the backside! I have never bought art, just sold it. I’d say at least 100 €.
Quite a varied range of prices given here. I’m guessing you’re not into this to make big bucks! LOL What I’d really like to see are colored glass pieced that allow light to shine through them. I like the way the colored lights cast shadows in the room. That makes me smile. You have 3 weeks to respond to my email I sent last week.
how much do pay yourself per hour? and what are the cost of supplies?
I would say $100 but then you got to get the right person(rich one)
p.s. he makes me smile
Wow. Great works of art. I have seen some of these in stores and they run from $50 – $75.
It’s lovely, honey. I don’t typically buy this sort of thing; so I’m not going to weigh in with an uneducated guess on what you should/could charge. You’ve gotten a lot of feedback already, so I think you’ll be okay without my total guess.
I would guess $100 to $150. If they won’t pay that……dare them to try and make their own! *hugs*
He’s GREAT! Just how much does he weigh? What sort of base material are you using? There are a lot of details to be considered in pricing something like this.
Sorry, not my cup o’ tea, but very cool nonetheless!
Easily in the $100-$150 range. It’s beautiful!
i have no idea how to appraise art, but very cool!
I was thinking between 75. and 100. anything lower and you are cheating yourself. However, if you could get 150. like some others think then I say price it high and only go down if you have to. Good Luck! Oh, I almost forgot, silly me.
It’ beautiful.
@ZSA_MD - That is a very common mistake lots of mosaic artist make… They assume people won’t put their work outside… and don’t use a sealer on their grout…I ALWAYS think of my pieces living outside and I use a grout additive with a latex or epoxy base… so it’s like the grout used in tiled showers! Let your friend know Zsa she will thank you for it! Thanks for commenting on it and your price guess!
I think that I’m with everyone else on the $50 to $100 range. But I would rather say lower so that I can afford him!! I want that frog so frickn’ bad!! I love frogs! You can just send him to me! I’ll give him a good home, promise!
D
@AllieMcNally - Would if I could, but it would probably cost more to ship it then I’m going to price him at! lol I’ll remember that you like froggies though…
He weighs about thirty pounds… I think people are going low because they think he is smaller, but he’s actually pretty big.
$250.00- at least.
Cool! My sister has a garden with this sort of look….she’d love it! I’ve seen this sort of thing priced for $75+ in boutiques….
Hi Angie, I think the price would be influenced by the location of its sale. In a small town garden center the traffic may not support a price much beyond $100. In a large city like Chicago, in a boutique in the city, it could easily fetch $350 for use in an office foyer or similar commercial setting. As a minimum your labor has to be worth $20 per hour and you have the cost of materials so I would say $200 would be a minimum FAIR price. But life is not always fair. I do love its unique colors and contours. Not a common garden decoration by any means. You are quite talented and I envy you for that. I am all thumbs.
That is very cool. I have no idea what that would go for but I am thinking somewhere between 75 and 100.
He is beautiful! That is something I would buy for my mother, actually; she loves frogs. ^_^
I would expect around 65ish as a good deal for the size, but I think you could set it higher.
as if you need to hear it again, i would say between $75 and $100. in a good economy, you could probably get more but times being what they are y’know.
$29.99 in three easy installments……..word
It all depends on the market. Around here the most people are willing to spend on any ceramic, glass, or mosaic art is $50. So most of the artist will sell for $35 to $45 until they get very well known. Only the ones with pieces in galleries in Chicago can demand prices over $100 – and many of those artists are doing commissioned works for well over $700. Nice frog BTW.
Aw he is cute!
Like a few people have said, I can’t really tell how big he is but maybe $50?
lovely work!!
just because it is hand-made and an original piece, i’d say….. $75 and up.
how much did you spend all together on materials?
Ooh, pretty! I love frogs.
Trish
I don’t think I can ever do something like this. You’re brilliant, Angi – and I’m not waxing lyrical!
this is so beautifully made! considering the amount of time and planning it took and the fact that it was completely handmade (and if this was expressed in the store) it should be priced at at least $80! if i had it i’d need to make a special shelf for it so that it would be easily seen in the house!
$100-$150 at least..Is he as big as mine? I would pay that plus for mine.
@seedsower - Nope… he’s about a thrid of the size of yours. He would look good in your garden though!
I think you need a giant hippo or a girraffe. (I’m kidding! )
CUTE!
Gee, Ang. He is a beautiful guy, but as a conservative Midwesterner like you, I would say $45 to $50. When pricing my pieces, I tend to think in terms of how much I would be willing to make another one for, which usually turns out to be about 3x the cost of materials, which I have heard is a good rule of thumb for pricing.
It’s adorable. It’s always so hard to price your own works, isn’t it? And it’s always amazing what people are willing to pay. I’d say aim high ($150+) because people seem to appreciate things more when they are higher priced. Let us know what the glass shop guys come up with
7 hrs x 1/2 (lowball personal/friend freelance creative cost@$50/hr) + recycled project materials= $155 one of a kind, $45 mass produced.Good luck!
mornin glorie….. I would say the frog is priceless…. it’s a good thing I’m not an artist cause I don’t think I could part with a frog like that…. I think Beths yard would be nice with a giant hippo or a girraffe…
…not a good as mine would…but nice none the less….ilym
reminds me of Nikki de St. Phalle
those are awesome!
Nice work Angie! I know its always hard to price your work. With the shop being slow I have been working on some of my glass again. I have been enjoying working with my kiln, but taking pictures of pendents is a bugger!!! Open to ideas there.
I’ve got an eye for what looks good and an unfortunate penchant for being a tightwad when it comes to buying stuff for myself. Others sure, but usually not me.
How beautiful!! Probably in the $100 range. I’ve seen some in stores before and they are expensive…considering the amount of work you put into them.
I have not one ounce of business sense, but I like what I see.
x
that is so cool…..and so beautiful!!! I’d probably price it around $50….does that sound fair? Of course, keep in mind that I don’t have a yard and have never bought anything like this in my life!!
Or maybe $100. Or $125! (I didn’t read how tall it was at first)
oi beautiful
Truly wonderful, Ang. I love them. While looking at them, I found myself RIVETed to your page. I like the playfulness in your work.
@ideaguy - Thank you! Is RIVETed… a little like RIBBETED?
impressive… however, i believe that it’s something that can be improved on.
for example, try sharttering the glass to even smaller pieces and making it into the shapes similar to that of the Imperial Easter Eggs.
I believe it would hit a much better price than what you have here right now.
For an item like this, I’d pay anywhere between 25~45 for the effort.
However, if you can shatter the glass into smaller pieces and put them back into one piece like any of the Faberge eggs (without anything else…no mould, no ceramic base) you can achieve anywhere between 2500~7500.
I wouldn’t have a clue on the price, but I think he’s adorable!
I would think it would be more like $100 dollars, maybe I’m way off. Gorgeous work, Ang!!!
Lovely! I think from what I’ve seen in the 40-75 dollar range.
It’s byoootiful! I’d say $100, at least, considering the size.
those are beautiful!!! i like them a lot. not the kind of thing i would ever buy though. i dont buy a lot of things that just sit and look pretty.
mornin glorie……I still think you should keep the frog…..ilym
I love this piece! Frogs are my favorite
