  • catholic church Isadore.jpg

This weekend I went to a catholic church in Isadore for a funeral.

I am not catholic, so I find the services fascinating.

This one was beautiful, the priest and the congregation sang it.

    Another reason it was beautiful…

There were twelve giant stained glass windows, depicting different bible scenes, early afternoon light glowing through them. By the time I could respectfully take pictures the light had changed.

I fell in love with the little details of each window.

I have pictures of them all but I will only share a few…

Don’t worry… I wasn’t clicking pictures until after the service!

I have some DOOR links to put up later.

I hope everyone who has a free day today is taking advantage of it…

We are digging up a pipe in the back yard, Oh joy.

I am sure that we will squeeze some beach time in.

Tomorrow the kids go to school!

    Oh sweet freedom!

Sitting with my family, listening, singing hymns, and watching, this weekend lifted my spirits.

I know that is an odd thing to say of a funeral, but it did.

    What lifts your spirits?

  • I don’t know, but I have always been a fan of stained-glass art.

A good piece of worship music can lift my spirits and is an indication to me of the power of music.

  • Oh my!  I was first???

    *faints*

  • @bonzojferardi - Being a glass artist, I have a little more appreciation for it now that i know what goes into making it. lol

Behave! *runs to get smelling salts* =D

  • Simply beautiful.

Angi, be blessed today… I think I shall go nap.

  • What lifts me up? Art (such as what you just posted) and especially music.

Stained glass art is amazing stuff! I learned how to do it myself, but you really have a great deal of patience and respect for the glass. I’m still working on the patience part. :)

Happy First Day of School tomorrow, Ang! Mine are already back. Yippee!

  • A lot of things lift my spirit, but at the top of the list is making someone smile and the sound of laughter.

  • Helping others in need, and reading a good book, listening to a song from the childhood, and seeing my grandchildren. These are some of the things that lift my spirits.

  • Lifts my spirits? A good worship service, beautiful music, time with friends–these all refresh me and lift my spirits.

My day is currently focused on laundry. Then I will likely shower before it’s time to host a birthday dinner with yummy grilled steaks. Not a bad way to spend Labor Day!

  • The stained glass is *gorgeous*!

  • Nothing like a good send off!!! Sounds like this one way just that!!!

Our Monday will be spent at my parents, we are cooking out today!!! I think all of us have instructed Mom that she will be sitting and not getting into any trouble!!!

    Enjoy your day!!!

  • Several years ago, I went to the Catholic church that my dad was baptized in, and my grandparents got married in. It was in Grammercy, La., so that is deep in the heart of Cajun Country. The stained glasses that you are talking about may be Stations of the Cross. Some churches do theirs in stained glass. Othewise, it is posted on the walls, just as this one was. They were all written in French!

Beautiful pics you have there!!! I love to travel. That lifts my spirits a lot too! Or, a trip to the beach! Happy Labor Day!

  • RYC: If you saw the video before Barack’s speech at the Democratic National Convention then you saw the what I posted. It was amazing but I found so much about that convention truly inspirational. Bill’s and Barack’s speech gave me goose bumps they were so good.

RYQ: My two great nieces always lift my spirits…always.

  • You know me better than to even ask. But since you did, thick ribeyes on the grill (later) and ice cold beer (now)!

Beautiful pictures of the church and stained glass. Reminds me of a church across the river in Ohio. Very similar, even the glass.

  • I love visiting churches with beautiful glass stained windows.  Absolutely gorgeous.

Hmmm…what lift’s my spirits?  There are many things…music, dinner at a nice restaurant, good friends, my dog, the purr of my cats, and a clean house.    I guess I should include my kids…they do make me laugh at times.

  • I had trouble getting nice pictures of stained glass windows.  I need a real camera!

  • I just took a bike ride with my family and we all went on the swings together under a clear blue sky.  Spirits lifted.  Check!

  • I use to love to see the back of that big yellow bus…leaving…taking my children….away. LOL!
What lifts my spirits….food (that’s bad). um…grandchildren hugs, talking to my grown up children about everyday stuff. Looking at art on the net. Swimming, riding bikes, having a big dinner for my little famiy…soooo I’m easily lifted. LOL!

  • If the priest was late it was a true Roman Catholic funeral but if he was on time I would wonder.lol

    You know I’m catholic -cradle

I do like the stainglass also-ours has always been the stations of the cross(crucifiction)

  • Beautiful churches always lift my spirits!  Lovely photos!

  • @jillcarmel - I think that is whatthese are… but not being catholic… I didn’t know! lol

  • good evening mornin glorie…….  You do…..with all the life you share with us……what in the world would we do without you…… we would all be mullygrubbin around not even knowing there is a beach in michigan where children can play in the sand and let bugs and such crawl on their faces……life is good……ilym
hey…..that’s the send off I would want too….good job!!!!

  • Gorgeous pics. I’ve had funerals lift my spirits before. I think if someone lived well, his or her mourners are usually left in good company to remember them in.

  • i’ve seen some pretty sweet stained glass pieces during my wedding photography times. i actually liked the longer catholic wedding ceremonies cuz it gave us photographers an opportunity to take turns napping, lol. we never shoot communion, and it takes a long time when the wedding is huge ;)

do you guys live really close to the beach or something?

  • @mercyless1 - Yes… yes I do.

  • You lifted my spirits just now, making me think of a Jim Gaffigan bit. I have his comedy album and my roommate and I listen to it all the time.
“Have you ever been to a Catholic mass? It is the longest experience of your life! Sometimes it seems like they’re dragging church out on purpose. ‘aaaah~aaaa~aaaa~aaaa… aaaa~aaaa~aaaa~aaaa…’ AMEN already! Let’s wrap it up, I got some sinnin’ to do.” Oh man. Being raised Catholic, that’s even funnier. Sooo true, especially at Easter. But I’m glad you enjoyed yourself :)

  • What lifts my spirits? There are some friends of mine – one or two in particular…

  • these aren’t the stations and their are abunch of them but they always have them in the church and if you’re lucky in stain glass.

  • I love church art

  • I don’t think odd.  And sometimes…..well, it is our time.  or we don’t really know the person.  Glad you had this experience.  Maybe the person who died was able to be joyful, and you felt it!  you never know!

i guess sites like your lift my spirits!  Yes, they do….at least ONE of the things that does this./……thanks

  • I really love any of the old churches.  They are a work of art and inspiration.

Glad to hear that you were not snapping these photos during the service…that would be a tad weird!

Maybe your next photo subject can be caskets…

  • There are many things that lift my spirits.  Way to many to list so I will put it all in one and that would be anything that has to do with nature.

  • Gorgeous, Angi.  I love the second stained glass photo.  I understand also what you mean about feeling closer to your family despite the fact that you were at a funeral.  There is something very affirming about sitting in a place of worship with people you love.

  • THOSE WINDOWS AND PHOTOS OF THEM ARE BEAUTEOUS!

  • those are beautiful windows…

usually it’s the people in my life that lift my spirits, recently my brother and I have become very close again and the other day when I was really haveing a bad one he called me and we talked for about an hour and a half… about various things and that really made me feel so much better… I’m sure when he’s intown again and we are all together it will be the best time!

also having my boyz around always lifts my spirits…

    ttfn…

  • I love old buildings, and if they have stained glass, I would be delighted. I remember liking them so much when I was in the different cathedrals in Spain. Gorgeous.
