Don’t Rain On My Parade
One of my favorite movie moments is the scene in Funny Girl, where Fanny decides she is going to get more from her life. She is going to have it all.
Don’t tell me not to live, just sit and putter,
Life’s candy and the sun’s a ball of butter.
Don’t bring around a cloud to rain on my parade.Don’t tell me not to fly– I’ve simply got to.
If someone takes a spill, it’s me and not you.
Who told you you’re allowed to rain on my parade!I’ll march my band out, I’ll beat my drum,
And if I’m fanned out, Your turn at bat, sir.
At least I didn’t fake it.
Hat, sir, I guess I didn’t make it!But whether I’m the rose of sheer perfection,
Or freckle on the nose of life’s complexion,
The cinder or the shiny apple of its eye,
I gotta fly once, I gotta try once,
Only can die once, right, sir?Ooh, love is juicy, juicy, and you see
I gotta have my bite, sir!
Get ready for me, love, ’cause I’m a “comer”
I simply gotta march, my heart’s a drummer.
Don’t bring around a cloud to rain on my parade!I’m gonna live and live now,
Get what I want–I know how,
One roll for the whole shebang,
One throw, that bell will go clang,
Eye on the target–and wham–
One shot, one gun shot, and bam–
Hey, Mister Arnstein, here I am!I’ll march my band out, I will beat my drum,
And if I’m fanned out, your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn’t fake it.
Hat, sir, I guess I didn’t make it.Get ready for me, love, ’cause I’m a “comer”
I simply gotta march, my heart’s a drummer.
Nobody, no, nobody
Is gonna rain on my parade!
I would say it is probably my favorite musical moment in a film.
What’s yours?

I love Babs!!! Great song!!! I’d say my favorite is probably “I am 16 going on 17″ from Sound of Music!
this is silly.. but one of my favorite musical film moments is the last scene in the movie grease. that whole olivia newton john in black leather dancing around… loved it!!
Oh come on…
You really mean to say that anything in Funny Girl supersedes the sheer unbounded joy (and relief) we all experienced when the wicked witch was crushed to atoms by Dorothy’s house?
I loved the line, spoken as much as sung, “As Coroner, I thoroughly examined her, And she’s not only merely dead, She’s really most sincerely dead !!”
Nice post. Musicals were a mainstay while growing up, though not so popular now. Thanks for the memories. (whoops, another good musical line!)
Peace, Jay
THESE are my fav movie scenes.
My favorite musical scene is the Trolley song from Meet me in St Louis HERE
I love the Music Man!! Opie was sooo cute singing, too!!
@Slag_Runner - I forgot how great that is!

The kids and I sing this one in the car. lol
RYC: -lol I take it you’re not going to admit you’ve seen ”Lost in Space”.
Favorite Musical moment…hmmmm…gotta give this one some thought…I’ll be back (to quote Arnold…not a musical moment…LOL)
Cats – Mr. Mistoffelees is a fave. =)
@mahz - I never had the pleasure of seeing Cats!

that could be your life theme song.
When I was a kid I would put that song on and sing it over and over again. I watched that movie about six months ago and that scene still gives me goose bumps.
Oliver with Jack Wild as the Artful Dodger singing I’d Do Anything will always be my first. I had such a crush on him after that.
All of the Sound of Music. I guess.
Shall We Dance? King and I
@siennachartreuse - I haven’t seen it! I can see I am missing out.

i love musicals. wish i could watch them more often!
I got to see a stage play once. It was wonderful
frank
I’ve never seen this movie. I should sit down and watch it!
re: no pics, I should get in the habit of snapping more… =P
Wife and I will be going to see My Fair Lady in a couple of weeks. I’ve never watched it performed live, only on TV, and I know almost all the songs by heart. “On The Street Where You Live” is probably the song I most want to perform on stage! But alas, I ain’t no tenor, so I’m probably more suited for this. Fun!
The Island of Mis-Fit Toys by Burl Ives in Rudolph, sorry not really into musicals.
Oh yeah, and ‘don’t tell me to sit and putter’ is kinda the reason I keep going out and doing things that result in getting a wee bit dinged up.
I love the wedding scene in The Sound of Music. But I also love the song “Oklahoma!” from musical of same name (lol) and there are others. Hard to pick one, but if I had to, Sound of Music would be it!
Kathi
I’ve never seen Fanny–I can;t remember the song, but the one where the Lt. sings about Bali Hai in South Pacific. I’m not a huge musical fan, so my source of reference is very limited.
Musicals are not for me!
hmm… musical moment in a film? i liked it when mulan was climbing on top of the pole to get the arrow while ” i’ll make a man out of you” is being sung, liked it when the beast held belle’s hand as they danced while mrs. potts sang “beauty and the beast”, loved it when ariel sang “part of your world reprise” after she rescued prince eric from drowning, loved it when simba was born while the rest of the african animals rejoice of his birth as “circle of life” is played, and always singing the “someone to watch over you” whenever i see mr. holland’s opus.
there are lots of beautiful songs out there
Never seen it, and now you have me wanting to – doubt I’ll find it in SA though????!!!!! Hope you have an awesome week, Sweet Angi!
Can I tell you that I’m now singing that in my office. My co-workers think I’m weird. (They already did, I guess.)
RYC: I should have put the jerk part in. Funny thing is – his friends like me better!
Hey, when am I growing a beard? hint hint
@lolalaurenatl - OOO I think sometime this week you will sprout whiskers! lol I’ll send you a message. ;-b
I don’t have a favorite musical, imagine that………..
@RdKingClassic03 - Really! Actually I figures. lol Unless its the music of the wind rushing past you while your on your bike!
Try this one on for size though. lol

Sooner or later Oklahoma is going to come up, and I so hate it, yet everyone I talk to on the phone has to hum a few bars of it when they find I am in Oklahoma. Grrr!
@bluemarsupial - I have been finding links of everyones favorites and adding them… I could find you some Oklahoma… Nah i don’t want to be mean…
If I had to pick a musical for you.. hmmm… what would it be? Pippi Long Stocking?
“Yankee Doodle Dandy”;
Just about any of the songs Danny Kaye did in his movies. Opening song for “The Court Jester”
I have many, but two musical songs come to mind for me:
“Hard Knock World” from the musical “Annie”.
“Think of Me” from “Phantom of the Opera”
I liked them both as songs to begin with. Then my daughter performed in “Annie” and sang “Think of Me” in high school and that put a special impression in my heart.
I haven’t seen this movie- but now I have to! I would have to say though I felt like Sandra Dee in Grease for YEARS!!!!
Hope all is well in the world of Angi!
Amberley
I love “The Sound of Music” Great love story and wonderful music!
Did you watch The Trolley Song? HUH,Did you?
@seedsower - YES! Of course I did! I love it! Gotta love Judy!
The movie Cinderella with Leslie Ann Warren…she is dancing with the prince….I think she is singing. Every girl dreams of being a princess, right?
I don’t know about my favorite musical moment… but my favorite musical is “Paint Your Wagon”.
dan
Dont get me started………King and I, Yentl, Oaklahoma, My Fair
Lady, Singing in The Rain, Sister Act I and II, Meet Me in St Louis,
White Christmas, Rodgers and Hammersteins made so many good ones,
Hello Dolly, I can keep going and going..
Thanks for worrying with me…….
I love the irony of that song in American Beauty as Anette Benning character pulls up to the house singing it at the top of her lungs, only to find her husband’s spanking new red sports car sitting in the drive, preventing her from parking.
My fave ‘song’ in a film is when Tim Curry breaks into Sweet Transvestite from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Shamefully, I know every word of every song from that film!
@angi1972 - Oliver is playing on Turner Classic Movie channel on Sunday 3/24 at 3:30 PM.
