  • about tc 117.jpg I used to enjoy cooking. I would go to the store and plan out the meals that Ben and I were going  to have, roasts, london broil, shrimp alfredo, lasagna, chicken breast stuffed with swiss cheese and sauted mushrooms… ( can you tell I’m hungry?) I loved it every little detail… I used to make apple pies, with crusts cut into leaf shapes… I loved to cook…

What happened to me. I dread the thought of even making macaroni out of a box anymore… It isn’t that I don’t like cooking… it just feels like more effort then its worth. Too much effort. For the first time the other night I actually liked it again.

Ben had to work all day so we put the kids to bed and made dinner just for us. We made bacon wrapped fillet mignon and some spinach tortellini with alfredo sauce… it was scrumptious… we played Boggle while the steaks were grilling and just enjoyed being together… I always enjoy being with Ben, now if I can just figure out what it took to enjoy cooking again… hmmmm…

  • I went through a period of not liking to cook. Now I do again but only once a week. Too much of a good thing is boring I guess?

  • Bacon wrapped fillet mignon is one of my favorite things to eat.  Invite me next time.

I do think that our interest evolve over time.  I can think of so many things that have sort of moved in and out of my life.

  • What a wonderful menu; and sharing a romantic dinner is so nice … lucky you !  Cooking has its ups and downs .. but I have never prepared bacon wrapped fillet mignon …  As Rachael would say … YUMO !  Have a good remainder of the weekend, and holiday !

  • life is all about phases…..ebb and flow…….

boggle? boggle? that’s my hub’s favorite game and i hate playing it with him cus he kicks my ass every time and then acts all smug about it.

  • I still love to cook.If only i had no clean up….that is the pisser!
    Missing you!

  • That’s right! You get back in that kitchen!

  • ugh, i always hate to cook
but oddly, i really like cleaning up after someone else cooks. there’s something about bringing a kitchen back to its original state of clean and orderly that always makes me feel much better… and yes, i do know that i am weird

  • Sometimes I must be forced into it cause I am so tired after work, kids, laundry and running.

I am an excellent cook though and you name it and I will make it.

I am with seedsower though if only you didnt have to clean it up.   Dullsville and dish panned hands.

I have a new baby to play with.

  • Blame it on children, they take a lot of energy.
I actually cook more now then when we were first married, of course micro waves may not be considered cooking by everybody.

  • When I was 9 years old my grandmother got me a Betty Crocker cookbook. I used to love to cook as a teenager.

When I was 19 I moved out of the house and I lived a bachelor’s life until I was 28 and married. during that time, I got real tired cooking for myself and stopped making anything but simple dishes.

Now, when I cook for my wife, I seem to enjoy it more. For me it’s sharing a skill with people special but not every day so it becomes a chore. I hope you can find that balance.

  • Simple uncomplicated food, my favorite food is beanie weenies

  • I’ve never been all that great at meals, I prefered making homemade bread and desserts of all kinds. Then I married my man who doesn’t have but one very small sweet tooth, and likes his bread out of a loaf-shaped bag from the store. Adding insult to injury, I then delivered myself of a boy allergic to eggs and peanuts — prime baking ingredients. You’d think I’d be able to have my talents for baking morph into cooking but it hasn’t happened yet. I guess that is why flash-frozen chicken nuggets are so popular.

  • I know the feeling. I used to enjoy cooking before I became “the cook”…that sucked the fun right out of it.

  • Good luck! My wife, cooks once a week that’s it! I don’t no how I stay 200 pounds?

  • I’ve never been a huge fan of cooking and having 2 picky eaters in the house doesn’t help.  Your dinner sounds yummy though!!! :)

  • RYC: The Beatles covered many a-songs in their time.

  • That sounds so sweet and happy.
Glad you found your passion again. Oh, and the cooking too, hehe.
Seriously, I think as a mom, wife, and all that comes with it, sometimes the job gets a tad mundane.

Hope your sunday is an awesome one, sweetie.
    *hugs*

  • I used to be a good cook. Now I am a good food heater. I lucked out and got golden Homer. He is in my purse. I better put him on the shelf with the others before I break his arm off or something. There were only 4 to a box, so it was lucky to get any. We ended up with 3 collections of Simpsons figures. One for each boy and one for my family room. They are not far from my Barbies and Beatle dolls.

  • Me too! I hate cooking anymore.Until I get home from work it’s late and who feels like starting a meal then. So it’s usually something real quick and easy.

  • oh my gosh what a menu!  did ya save some for me?

ryc:  it was a GREAT game for me…  bama beat western carolina 52-6.  woowoo!!!!  i had a really great time watching the game with my girls, and my husband actually did a decent job of redeeming himself.  he brought me home a game day shirt.  i think he knew better than to come home empty handed.  after all, he would eventually have to go to sleep…  lol!  funny thing is, one of my best friends called me and told me that he had an extra ticket to the florida state – alabama game. hmmmm.. think i’ll go!  evil, aren’t i?

  • HAH!  great picture.

  • I love to cook but if I’ve been out working all day and anyone expects me to cook while they rest – forget it.  Everyone is on his own or it’s carry out.  Works for me!!!  Peace

  • Wow! Thanks for all the confetti and champagne and the award! It made me smile. for real! Thanks for being there!

  • I hear you about the cooking. Maybe the humdrum draining of everyday life squeezes the enjoyment out of such things. And maybe I’m just waffling lol. Have a good one. Glad you enjoyed some time with your other half.

  • your bored and when you eat as much as i do it feels like you have had it all….

btw: you are so smart I knew you knew or had a good idea it was her

  • sounds like you two had a great date night (kinda)

    the dinner sounded great!

  • Hmmmm, I think it may be the key words : kids went to bed!!!!

I find that when the kids are ‘busy’ and I have had some time to relax a little, I start feeling creative and feel like cooking or baking….I also love creating when its for someone else, to make them happy.  Perhaps it was the excitement of knowing it was just gonna be you and Ben and you guys were gonna have some alone fun together!
Wish I could get my husband to play those type of games with me!

    Have an awesome week Ang!

  • Could the season slow you down-summer is more for salads and such. Your dinner is making me salivate!!

  • awww… how sweet, I dread the day I stop loveing to cook… that’s probably how I gained so much weight, being alone in my marriage… I would cook for two but it would just be me eating…

now, I have a whole house full of hungry young men to cook for (my cousins!) thou it’s tricky cooking for a vegitarian…

    ttfn…

  • It’s not your fault.  The problem with cooking kid friendly food is that it’s neither entertaining nor delicious to adult type people.  Someday, when the kids are grown. . .
