I imagine that everyone loves the area that they come from. Whether you stay there your entire life or not there is probably one thing about the place your from that will always invoke good memories.
When I lived in Utah I found that it wasn’t for me. There are things of such beauty there, the Arches, and the mountains, so many other things, but it was never home. I missed the shades of green and deciduous trees. I missed the water so much I can’t imagine living in a place with out some type of water near by ever again.
Something else I missed that I didn’t even know I missed until I returned home was the barns. In Utah I saw no barns, in fact every where we traveled in the Western part of the country I can’t remember seeing one barn. They are probably there, who knows, I didn’t see them.
Lately I have developed an obsession with barns. We drive down the road and I will point out several to Ben hoping he will pull over to let me take a picture, occasionally he does. If he did it every time, we would always be late to wherever we were headed. I make mental notes on where they are located and what is near by. “Oh that one has a bank of tiger lilies that will be open soon.” or ” That will look great when the sun sets.” They crowd my head waiting for the day when Cooper and I can take a drive and capture them so I can hide them in a computer file.
My Mother in Law collects barn pictures so I take the photos under the rouse of giving them to her, but I think Ben might be on to me… I like them for myself, they make me feel good. I will probably never hang them on my wall, but I will occasionally open their files and peek at the images, just so I can get that sense of home.
This barn is in Empire near the Sleeping Bear Dunes. At the top of the dune when you look down you can see it and Glen Lake. It’s so beautiful. Some day I’ll make the effort to climb it again and get a picture.
Just because I thought it would be fun. Love Picassa.

DITTO! Have a wonderful Mothers Day Ang, much love to you!!!!
Hi! I see you all over Xanga and on a lot of my friend’s sites so I decided to stop over and say HI. I saw your comment on LeLo’s site and we must share the same type of mind!!
I live in farm country, so I see a lot of beautiful barns in my area. I never really take notice of them, since I’m used to seeing them. I think I’m going to take a closer look at them the next time I drive to work!
Have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Mother’s Day! Alicia
RYC: Yeah, I feel as if I know you too!! I’ve seen you everywhere. I usually don’t venture out into other people’s sites, but since you are friends with all my friends I didn’t think you would mind!
It will be fun getting to know you!
I know exactly what you mean. I missed home so much after the novelty of Florida wore off. I missed the mountains and the change of season colors in New England. Believe it or not I actually missed to cold weather too (even snow).
Have a great weekend and a Happy Mother’s Day!!
I, too, love barns. There’s something about them that spark my imagination about the midwest. They symblosize a simpler time when people performed the most basic chores and actually created tangible, using things from their bare hands. I romanticize them like I do other things. There’s something about them that evokes down-to-earthhness, and they’re’s a certain mystery and innocence attached to them in my mind—they’re so Americana in my mind, Those barns are beautiful. I wished we had one–I would probably turn it into an art studio. I can only dream.
Barns are awesome…I like wind mills too! Have a SUPER weekend!
Funny, my aunt who grew up in Mississippi, lived her life in Nevada because she said she never wanted to see a tree again. Of course my mother’s family was dirt poor and lived in the middle of red dirt pine trees, so maybe it was just a bad taste in her mouth.
The barns are beautiful. I am fascinated by them too. There is one on the way home… the barn of a sure Aggie fan, that I would love to photograph, but it is surrounded by llamas which I am told spit on you, lol!
Hugs, Tricia
i love barns
they’re all over the place around where i grew up too
we just redid the family one so that it looks kinda like your second one on the outside but inside it has a loft with 4 bunk beds and downstairs a kitchen and living room thing- not really a normal barn anymore :- but its good for renting..
and yea- im always going to like where im from best- but im totally spoiled cuz i grew up on an island in the Chesapeake..
Truthfully, I read the first sentence and cried foul! No. I really don’t like it where I came from, but I deal with it for now, in hopes that I’ll soon be far, far away. Not to say that I don’t have good memories here, but right now I’d just rather be on the ‘other side of the fence,’ where the grass is brown.
I love the hills of PA,I am only 20 min from ^^^^My friend Brad but it makes all the difference.I do love barns!!! Are you there …is it too late to call??
I like barns too. I was just thinking that in a few years, the barns will all be gone. People are not building barns like they once did and all the old ones are falling down. How sad. Then I just read the comment above where someone is redoing a barn! How cool!
But no, I do not like the area I’m from. There’s nothing here for me. Good bloggy
There is a book on barns my sister gave my mother on Christmas, all the types and special barns from across the county.
There is a very nice round barn near me on a picture perfect little lake known as Moody Lake, you would love it.
I liked the west as well but also found it to be too dry for my liking.
I miss the green trees and mild weather. :-S
They don’t.
! No, I’ve never tried it, but the picture you edited with it looks beautiful.
Pretty close, yours has a better paint job
I have had opportunities to move to other areas and I can’t. I love it here and even in high school I had no plans to move away. I love barns, the make life seem simpler. If I think of it I’ll take some pics from my neighborhood and share them.
i find barns interesting too
I love those styles of barns. You’re right about the lack of barns in the west.
Those are pretty.
I miss my hometown but don’t ever want to live there again. I’ve pretty much gone native here in the Bay Area.
I have never been the Utah, I’ve heard it’s creepy
heh, how did you do that!?!
