  • Ben and I had a date again last night. I think that’s two in a month. WOW we’re doing good.

We went to one of the last bastions for smokers in the free world. The Cocktail Lounge.  WE aren’t smokers but This restaurant has one of my favorite things: roast duck. So I was willing to live with the smoke and Ben went along just to be with me.bum steer pictures sign.jpg    bum steer glass.jpg

The Bum Steer. I hadn’t been there in years but I had a craving. When one has a craving it must NOT be ignored.

We dumped the monsters at Mom and Pop’s and off we went.

The thing I found amusing is that we were the youngest people there. Maybe they were having a senior citizen night? It was odd to be the puppy in the crowd again. I haven’t experienced that in awhile.

Oh… Water, since that is almost all I drink, in a cocktail lounge…                                  >

    ON THE MENU:

bum steer pictures snails.jpg First I should say that I think food pictures are just cruel and unusual.

Now, That being said I have nothing else to post so here they are.

    Snails aka escargot

I LIKE EM… so live with it.

although these were not the best I’ve had by a long shot. Not enough garlic in the butter and the toast was too big… I prefer points.

bum steer pictures prime rib.jpg Ben’s prime rib. He was pleased with it, His ordering method goes something like this.

“Find me the piece that’s mooing and slap it on a plate.”

He was cutting it with his fork, it was that tender. Just the way it should be with a side of horseradish.

bum steer pictures duck.jpg  My duck… Mmmm… yummy.

Duck roasted in grande marnier with a cherry sauce. Very tasty. I’m a lazy girl though I just prefer the breast. I don’t like to play with bones… at least not that kind. Ahem…

Because we had to roll ourselves away from the table there are no desert pictures to share.

So we rolled into my parents and collected the monsters. It was a very early evening but a moment of freedom is worth so much sometimes.

  • I love escargot, though I’d take Prime Rib over duck any day. If I do eat duck I like no sauce of any kind. Glad you got another night out!!

  • The prime rib was pretty good – very tender. For being the rarest piece in the kitchen, it wasn’t that rare though. I prefer the duck I make (but I have to be honest, I haven’t cooked it for her very much …. I keep thinking I should bring one home for her for a surprise but … it takes a while to make, so maybe the next time she goes out for a couple days to see her sister, I can prepare it while she is gone.)

  • omg you and I are so alike, I love snails and duck how yummy

  • That is one good looking steak, but for my taste needs to be introduced to the heatr just a little longer, no comment about thew snails, I’ve never had them, but I’d try them just so you, the pirate lady and the shoe chick wouldn’t give me a hard time.

If ben has any left overs just push them to my side of the cell

  • Now I’m hungry again, and I just ate.

  • my home and I are one of the last smoke free places still too

  • looks great!  i’ve never had duck tho…i’d love to try it.

we need a date night to get away from the kids!

  • Looks so good.  I almost came through the screen on the prime rib. lol

  • Not a big fan of any of the items pictured here, but I’m still jealous.

A night out at a place that you adore — sounds wonderful . . .

  • MMMMM…that’s a handsome looking piece of meat that Ben’s got on his plate….***salivating***….I’d be happily in a meat induced coma after consuming something that big.  Duck is okay but too greasy for my taste. Escargo?  No thanks!!

    Have a smashing weekend!!

  • A restaurant that has smoking… hummm… I must say that the food looks really good.
    Hugs, Tricia

  •   Sorry, but the prime rib picture grossed me out more than the escargot!  (Just thinking back to all the information I learned in parasitology and Zoonosis classes on undercooked meat and what you can acquire from it!)

  • It not the amount of time … it’s the quality and it looked like you have enjoyed yourself.

  • Escargot??? Ewww!!!!!  LOL  I know some people like them.

You know, I’ve never had duck?  I asked Scott what it taste like and he said chicken. LOL

  • Been meaning to come by and say hi……….(HOLA) since the other day!  Nice to finally officially meet you, seen you around forever ………… Hope you have a good weekend!

  • That looks delicious! I’ve never had snails before, but I wouldn’t mind trying them. I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere that has had them on the menu. I must not be going to the right places!

  • You know, I had the opportuntity several times last week in Paris to have escargot; and I declined. I’ve only had it once–on a cruise–and they were OKAY; but nothing too great. Maybe I should try again. I’m with Ben, though… rare steak (and/or prime rib) is the best.

RYC: The weekend is going to be better. It just is. No bath required; I took a shower before bed last night and washed the high-stress work week away. My hair looks ridiculous today though… don’t sleep on damp hair!

  • I wanna go on a date.   (Does it have to be with my husband?)  LOL

    Trish

  • You would post pictures of delicious looking food when I’m down with a raw throat and have no appetite! lol. Glad you and your other half managed an enjoyable night away from the kids, we all need it sometimes. Have a great weekend lady!

  • RYC:  It’s hard to know if she was insane.  People at that time didn’t treat individuals that were “different” very good.  I’m glad we’ve come a long ways from those days concerning the mentally sick.

  • A night out….I’m so jealous. I get a severe reaction to cigarette smoke and am sick for weeks after exposure, and am entirely too picky of an eater to crave anything but the baked potatoes on your plates, but a night out…. that has me drooling. Glad you had fun!

  • Looks tasty you can keep the snails though.

  • Date night….how romantic!  If I ever get married again I think we will do date night!!!!!  Of course my son will be grown and I will probably be in a nursing home so maybe my DATE can wheel me down to the cafeteria for some slop!!!!!  Have a super weekend lady.

  • That looks delicious. I’ve been on a diet so I could eat a horse! LOL!

  • hope you had a wonderful day sweetheart!!!!

  • Looks good. All but the prime rib-way to rare for me!! You might just want to go out in the field and bite the cow in the butt. LOL. Glad you had a good time!!!

  • yum!!! we’ve had like two dates this week!! whats going on? is it that time of year?

  • mmmmm, good food.

  • Did the duck smile at you like in A Christmas Story?
